I hope that this off season will not be worse than in 2010 for the off-field issue

Police statement on Chris Rainey:

GAINESVILLE, FLA – At approximately 8:26am on January 10th, 2013, the Gainesville Police Department received a 911 call from a witness that reported a male subject and a female subject involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical.

Officers arrived and identified Christopher J. Rainey, BM 3/2/88 as the male involved. Witnesses told officers that Rainey and the victim got into an argument over Rainey’s cellphone. The female victim entered the vehicle of Rainey’s roommate, and Rainey confronted her on the passenger side of the vehicle, and began pulling her out of the vehicle. Witnesses then observed Rainey slap the victim across the face with an open hand. Both Rainey and the female victim then fell to the ground. The victim was able to run away, but Rainey chased after her because his cellphone was in a bag the victim was carrying. Rainey grabbed the bag again, and they both fell to the ground again. Neither party suffered visible injuries from the encounter. Multiple witnesses confirmed the incident.

The investigation revealed that Rainey and the female victim have been in a dating relationship for approximately nine months. Rainey was ultimately arrested by the Gainesville Police Department and charged with one count of Simple Battery (Dating Violence.) Rainey was transported to the Alachua County Jail for booking.

Cut him.

At the very least you have to let the legal process play out before you take any action.

It doesn't look good, but he's owed a presumption of innocence.

No, it would send a clear message to the rest of the team that Pittsburgh isn't going to tolerate any of this behavior (unless your last name is Harrison).

True, but they should cut him anyway.

And I think it's time to admit that the Steelers aren't any different than any other team as far as players with character issues. Can't make fun of the Bengals anymore.

He should have went drinking in Georgia.

This is why I wouldn't have cut him until the legal process played out. I know you're just being flippant ALLD, but others will make this same connection and call the Steelers hypocrites over it.

Also you can bet someone will throw down the race card before too long even though the Steelers kept James Harrison under similiar circumstances.

Truthfully what it comes down to though is there is a double standard. The less game you have the lower tolerance level there will be for off field issues.

There's a lot of young men throughout society that commit crimes. Why should anyone think the NFL would be immune to the same?

its a matter of the steelers versus the rest of the nfl, not the nfl versus the world. the nfl clearly isnt immune to the same, but for a long time it seemed like we [the steelers] were. now we have as many players with red flags in their character as anyone else. unfortunately, many of them are high profile like ben and deebo.

Also apparently had a gambling problem. From the PPG.

"And in December, Rainey was cited for defiant trespass, a summary offense, when he entered the Meadows Racetrack and Casino outside Washington, Pa., after he had signed himself onto a self-exclusion list, according to the Magisterial District Judge Jay Weller's office. Notice of a $300 fine recently had been mailed to him.

According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, self-exclusion "allows a person to request to be banned from all legalized gaming activities and to be prohibited from collecting any winnings, recovering any losses or accepting complimentary gifts or services or any other thing of value at any licensed facility."

If someone on the list steps onto the gaming floor, the facility must deny wagers and ask the person to leave, at which point the person may be arrested for trespass."

You know TMZ is up close and personal:

Quote: "So its ok to keep a guy who has 2 rape allegations under his belt, but the guy who has 1 allegation of domestic abuse, which i am in no way condoning, is the one booted off. Right...that makes sense"

Quote: "Actually, I think the proper punishment when somebody "swipes" your phone...is a bitch-slap".

I'll admit that, but I don't see why we should stop making fun of the Bengals. They still deserve it.

After 2 or 3 arguments "like this" with a chick, it's time to drop her. It never gets better in this area, only worse. But you can't tell people anything tho, they have to learn the hard way. Thus, the high incident's of domestic violence in this country.

The San Diego Union-Tribune‘s site has a thoroughly depressing but otherwise awesome “NFL Arrests Database,” where you can track dates, players and incidents by team or even by position.
I‘ll save you the trouble: The Bengals have had 38 since 2000, the Steelers 19.
