Heath Miller holds all kinds of records for tight ends who wore the Steelers uniform and he added two more today. He is the first tight end to win their Most Valuable Player Award and he is the first recipient to miss the ceremony.
Miller was scheduled to have surgery on his injured right knee today and thus could not attend the press conference that revealed he won the MVP as voted by his teammates.
He leads the Steelers with 71 receptions, seven more than Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown. That number is second among AFC tight ends and five fewer than his own record for team tight ends, set in 2009.
Steelers Report: Injuries and the Browns
His 816 yards are only 20 off Wallace's team lead. And he leads everyone but kicker Shaun Suisham with 50 points on eight touchdown receptions and a two-point conversion.

Two other awards also were presented today, both on votes of the local chapter of the Pro Football Writers Association.
Mike Adams, who started six games at right tackle before an ankle injury knocked him out of the lineup, is the Steelers' rookie of the year.
Casey Hampton, who started all 15 games after January ACL surgery, won the Chief Award named in honor of Art Rooney Sr. for a player's cooperation in assisting writers covering the team.
