Very sorry I haven't been posting these the past few weeks. Just finished fall semester at school and the last few weeks were pretty hectic. Kinda burnt me out. I'm going to try to backtrack and watch the other games I've missed after the Cowboys' game, but we'll see what happens. But for now, a somewhat abridged version of the Chargers game.

First Half

- Starting gunners were DVD and Victorian. Victorian also a jammer.

- Hood did a really good job of snuffing out screens on the Chargers' first drive. Read Rivers, QB still has to sell the screen.

- Spurlock out route on 3rd downs.

First conversion: Out route with cornerback in man coverage having inside shade. Really tough to defend. No. 2 receiver top of the screen.

Second conversion: Motion to stack receivers, force Curtis Brown into off coverage, creating natural separation on speed out.

Third conversion: Switch to zone this time, seven yard out on 3/10, Brown can't cut off Spurlock in time.

- Back-to-back offsides by Troy and Harrison to give Chargers first down on 3rd and 10 is maddening.

- Picture of how small the window Ben had to hit Burress.

- Not a big surprise but Will Allen rotated out with Troy. Not Mundy.

- Really nice job by Hampton to get penetration on 3rd and 1 with 11:40 left in the second. Lined up in "far side" A gap and slants through to make the stop. It did help our cause though that the guard pulled and with the DE crashing and Hamp there, the center was put in a bad spot.

- Incomplete deep ball to Wallace with eight minutes left in the half. Basically a deep ball or bust play. Three man route, Wallace and Brown deep. Looked like Cover 0. Wallace with good route, outside stem and then comes back to post. Just couldn't hang on.

- Alexander's first TD. 3x1, isolated with Brown with Steelers showing single high safety. Curtis bites on the double-move, and it's pitch and catch. Picture of formation.

- Beachum whiffed on block on 4th down play. Allowed initial penetration.

- Sanders did a nice job running away from defenders on scramble drill and settled down all alone in the middle of the field for a 31 yard pickup.

- Starks with a really bad first half. Looked very sluggish off snap, constantly beat around the edge.

- Line as a whole was awful. Chargers just through stunt after stunt at us all game and it often got "A" gap pressure. Ben could not get comfortable all game long. Obviously, all the moving and shaking we've had to do the past few weeks has taken its toll.

- But to Ben's credit, he did a great job of climbing the pocket when he felt the rush from the outside.

Second Half

- 17 yard run by Ronnie Brown. Have Foote on fire stunt looping around Harrison away from the draw. Became five Chargers blocking four Steelers. Picture.

- Floyd TD. Motion him to nasty split, creating more room on out route. Lewis does his best to recover but there's not much he could have done.

- Ben' 40 yard TD to Wallace maybe one of the best plays he's made all year. Ben looks to left, away from Wallace off snap, moving the single high safety a bit off the hash. Two pics.

Ben feels pressure, climbs the pocket, and with English draped on him, fires a dime to Wallace.

- DeCastro was on PATs.

- Chargers' fake punt. Double vice (two jammers on each gunner) probably the reason why the Chargers ran the fake. Less defenders to worry about up front.

- Swing pass to Spurlock. Tough for Clark but you have to funnel him back to the inside. Can't, Spurlock gets to the outside and he picks up 13.

- Next Chargers' punt after the fake. Have Mundy up front to the same side as the upback.

- Alexander's second TD. Him vs Victorian, no contest. Victorian tries bail technique (open hips to QB off snap) doesn't help him. Jump ball that Alexander will always win.

- Used slant/fade on the final TD by Brown.

- Pouncey struggled with low snaps at center and looked as bad as I've ever seen him throughout the game at center and guard. You know it's bad when your All-Star is struggling.

Sacks

- 3rd and 8, 5:45 left in 2nd. Shotgun, empty. 5 vs 5. LB drops into coverage, CB comes. Not able to pick it up, they also run a T/E stunt to occupy the tackles' attention, and Legursky ends up picking up no one. Pic. Tough to assign blame to anyone though. Just a really good defensive scheme.

http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg608/Chidi2929/Bensack2_zps19708ca3.png

- 1st and 10, 4:27 left in 4th. Shotgun, 11. Liguet loops around edge to take Ben down. But Ben had time and some open receivers. Dig route was an option and the checkdown to Dwyer was open. Granted, Ben is trying to make a play down the field, but taking a sack doesn't do us any good.

Sack Counter (Game)

Defensive Scheme: 1
Ben Roethlisberger: .5
Maurkice Pouncey: .5

Won't do a sack counter for the season until I get the other games done.

Formations
FB: 7

Empty: 4

I've missed you around here Chidi. I guess you have been busy at school.

Thanks for the round up, but that is a game that I would rather forget.

Yeah, time leading up to finals week was really busy.

Game I'd like to forget too, but getting to review losses and learn from them is how you grow (in theory anyway. Didn't work for the team Sunday, clearly).
