The Steelers' scramble to fill the void left in the offensive line by the season-ending injury to Willie Colon last month continues.
Veteran lineman Chester Pitts (6-foot-4, 308 pounds) visited the Steelers' South Side practice facility Tuesday, one day after the 31-year-old, eight-year veteran met with the Buffalo Bills............

I am beginning to think the coaching staff has little confidence in the back up linemen....

More back-up guards? I guess Trai Essex has that LT spot nailed down.

Again. They already worked him out last week. They must be feeling pretty seriously about signing him.

I dont have a problem with a vet guy coming in...I'd rather Pitts than that Adrian Jones or w/e his name was. Plus even though Pitts played G before...he could play T too...

"Pitts spent three of his first four years with the Texans at left tackle and the rest at left guard. He has 48 starts at tackle and 66 at left guard."

Also another nice little fact from that article...

"The Steelers are interested in Pitts because of his experience. He has started every game of his NFL career (114) since he was drafted in the second round of the 2002 draft by the Houston Texans."

And just because they bring someone in doesnt mean they dont have faith in their guys/etc...i'm sick of people saying that...but if the guy is better end up being better than anyone else fighting for the RT spot then so be it...but i'm not going to say the guys we have suck/etc/etc if they bring someone in...like any team you'd want the best player available to play for you at any position (if you can get them).

I have no problem bringing in a versatile guy on the line. It's more competition to bring to camp.

Sounds like they could sign this guy two visits sounds like they found something in him.

I'm all for experience. God knows we need any sort of solidity we can get. If Pitts can bring 8 years of starting knowledge to the table, that's an asset.

Fresh off microfracture surgery? Can he even run yet? Let's see if he passed the physical first.

If Pitts is healthy he would be a VERY serious pickup, and woud push to be a starter on this squad.

He held a workout for any teams interested last week or whenever it was...thats when the Steelers first checked him out at this workout...so he can go/etc...though i'm sure the team will do their own physical (if they havent already)...they've only had him in for this one visit so far...now if he comes back again...there could be a good chance he'll sign.

If i were him I'd pick the Steelers...and i'm not just saying that as a Steeler fan....if your a player who's been in the league 8 yrs and barely won anything let alone got into the playoffs...why would you go to a team who is in rebuilding mode also (the Bills) when you can go to a contender in the Steelers.

He's been a starter? They won't sign him since he will probably ask for more than $2 mil. Besides why not bring in a tackle to replace a tackle, though I guess that won't happen since it makes too much sense

He's played tackle for 3-4 years...like it said in the quote of the article i posted. So he can play T or G, which is a good thing. Plus he's like an inch taller than Colon...so that could help some at the tackle position too, haha.

Oh now i get it. I think we should've gone after Pitts this entire time.

If we sign this guy the O-line competition will really heat up.

Since he has been a starter for a while the he'll probably ask for more than $2 mil, then the steelers will lose interest

As far as the money is concerned...unless theres an awesome offer out there for him...i think he would sign with a contender (here) for a little cheaper...or even put incentives in his contract like the Bengals did for TO...like if he makes the team he will get X amount of money...if he starts so many games X amount of money, etc...so he can maybe make up the money he might be "loosing" and such.
