Holy moses. What kind of injury did mike adams have anyways? Only Beachum and Malecki as backups for the 2 tackles. Not good. Is decastro even ready to play...effectively?

I think that Ramon Foster can play RT

Foster started at RT in the second preseason game against the Colts and showed well

that is a shocking move considering I read several places Gilbert was very close to returning and was expected to return last week or this .... http://draftsteel.com/ff/images/smilies/blurry.gif

Yeah he's played there in regular season games as well but he's better at everything at guard. If adams gets knocked out for good, we could be weakening our O-line at 2 spots (right tackle where foster could be kicked out to, and inserting decastro at right guard), and thats a big deal.

Steelers released Gilreath as well, which could be a sign Brown could be out there this week. Getting our best route runner and most consistent receiver back could be a huge boost to the offense.

I wouldn't doubt it for one second.

If DeCastro is ready to play, wouldn't it make more sense to start him at right guard, slide Foster to left guard, and move Willie Colon out to right tackle, where he started for about 4 seasons?

No, because then we really weaken our run game. Colon at LG is a monster in the run game. I'd rather keep him there and worry about the right side of the line, than flip flop three positions and worry about both sides.

Hopefully, Adams can go this week, however.

I'm more worried about protecting Ben at this point. I know that Colon is a pretty good pass blocking right tackle. I'm not so sure Foster has the feet or quickness to keep OLB's and DE's from getting to the qb?

True, but I'm thinking that we can use 1 and 2 step drops to do that just as effectively. We also need a decent run game in order to slow up a pass rush, and to keep the safeties from sitting back in the zone and waiting on any of Ben's passes that may go over 10 yards.

Beyond that, I'm not sure if I'd want to mess with Colon's learning curve at RG either.

If Ben starts, I'm waiting for the ultimate ironic roster move: Steelers cut Batch, sign Batch.

What a weird move, Gilbert was expected back this week.

Yeah I think this points to Foster going to right tackle, too.

I hope we'll hear more in about thirty minutes from Tomlin in his press conference.

Is it possible that Gilbert hasn't been diligent with his rehab and isn't in game shape?

That's the only conclusion I can reach. Unless he's had a setback we simply don't know about yet. I was really excited to get him back.

I, too, heard on 93.7 The Fan that Pouncey will switch to guard if Colon can't play.

Yeah, I saw it after I read your post. Hmmm, wonder who is reading our forum. That suggestion was made last year and I reposted it last week.

Maurkice Pouncey, who leads AFC Pro Bowl vote for centers, said he felt good taking snap at left guard and could play there if needed.
