Just heard this on ESPN radio. Dislocated rib and they're worried it could cut into his AORTA if it doesn't have time to heal :(

More on the rib (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8631491/ben-roethlisberger-pittsburgh-steelers-says-dislocated-rib-biggest-worry)

What I don't get is, if it's still popping out of the joint, why doesn't he just have surgery to secure it in place?

What exactly could surgery do? Can't stitch it. Can't screw it into place since it goes into cartilage and the ribs are pretty small at that point anyway, at least the way I'm thinking about it. Maybe there is something, but if rest is the best thing to let it heal, then why cut through muscle to get to it?

The standard treatment is for them to try and pop the rib back into place and then you just have to sit there and take it easy. It says they CAN do surgery, but only do it rarely because it usually causes more problems than it solves and takes even longer to heal. I'm worried this could be a 6-8 week deal, which would be the rest of the regular season.

I had a dislocated rib once. I't probably wasn't as severe as his, but it sure didn't feel good. My chiropractor popped it back for me. It popped back out once about a month after that and it's been fine since.

Impossible. According to Ben, he's the only person to have one since 1998. The drama queen that he is had to point that out to everyone!!

Todd Haley is doing all he can do to help Ben Roethlisberger heal. He's even resorted to ...
Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley has coached Ben Roethlisberger for a little more than half of a season, but has already realized how important he is to the success of the Steelers.

Haley said he wasn't about to go into figuring out a timetable for Roethlisberger's return, Read more at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review › (http://triblive.com/sports/2950090-85/rib-roethlisberger-injuries-injury-dislocated-steelers-aorta-ben-geier-joint#axzz2BBPGEtUC)but did say that he is doing everything he can to help him return as soon as possible.

And Haley hasn't left any stone unturned.

“Every night when I go to bed I will say a little prayer that he’s a fast healer," Haley said.

Did she also have an SC joint sprain? That, of course, is what Ben was referring to when he mentioned the rugby player having a similar injury in 1998. It is rare to have that in conjunction with a dislocated rib, and there are stories that back that up.
