So if they ever do call him in, he says "had a cramp. It went away" and they can't really do anything.

Personally, I think the league should institute a 1 series mandatory rest on injured players. That will provide a disincentive to flopping in addition to propping up their "we care about player safety" propaganda.

That would be a good intuitive rule. And yeah this is stupid. Sure that looked blatantly obvious, but how can anyone prove it lmao. Wasting your time protecting the "integrity of the game"...Goodell and Subordinates...

Right now, the rules are what the rules are. There was concern about the number of fake injuries 15 years ago or so, and they changed the rules to cover the last few minutes of a half. If they think it's gotten to be a bad enough problem that they want to make another rule expanding it to cover the whole game, they can go ahead and do that if they want.

Personally, I think they have more than enough rules, and one more like this will really do nothing but bog things down in even more rule-craziness. Most of the time there's not much incentive to fake injuries except for the end of a half anyway, because it doesn't matter (as it didn't in this case).

Only causing a stir because it was a national game. If it was Ten @ Jak, Sunday at 1, it would not be an issue.

That's pretty much it. I can't believe they are wasting time on this. How you going to prove 'no cramp' existed ? Man, there are 'morons' and 'bafoons' at all levels.

LOL.

This is the epitome of mental masturbation.

Only way to keep this from happening is to change the rules.

Complete bullshit and a waste of time. Other teams do it and no one says a word. GMAFB!

I am surpised he is not making the late night talk show circuit with this. The hopping on 1 foot, the stretching and then the sprint to down the ball with the way NBC was covering was pretty funny.

Nope, it's warned against every year by the NFL.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/09/28/league-sends-out-memo-on-faking-injuries/ (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/09/28/league-sends-out-memo-on-faking-injuries/)

The last time it happened, was the Giants. Remember the uproar then? This isn't something that's done "all the time." Matter of fact, the last time it was done by the Giants, there was a memo sent out warning that the next time any team does it, the team could face fines, suspensions, or loss of draft pics.

So in reality, the league went easy on the Steelers here so far, IMO, primarily because it was pretty hard to tell whether it was fake or real.

The reality is that you have no way of knowing whether a player is injured or not when they go down so don't try to tell me that this never happens. I can pretty much guarantee you that EVERY team has discussed this situation and told their players what to do. Just because they're not getting caught doesn't mean that it's not happening.

If the announcers didn't make such a big deal about it, it wouldn't be getting all of the attention.

Yes and no.

Remember, most of the things are brought up to the league NOT because of announcers, but because the other team watches the film over the next few days to break down what happened - and then submits all types of things to the league. I agree that it's hard to tell at times what's going on. However, there's no evidence whatsoever to support your theory that "other teams do it." I think it's done a lot less that you assume. I would submit however, that a number of injuries are played up. A stubbed toe becomes a broken foot for a few minutes. But outright making up of injuries are much fewer, IMO, because the acting skills of an NFL player simply are not that good in comparison. See, once again, NY Giants.
