View Full Version : Titans are tonic for Steelers' road woes

Casey Hampton doesn’t know when it happened.

Maybe it was when an aging Peyton Manning took over in Denver or when James Harrison was out. Maybe it was when the awful Oakland Raiders dictated to the Steelers in the second half rather than the other way around.

“I don’t know, man,” Hampton said. “If I knew that, we’d be back.”

Hampton said it’s time for the Steelers to get back all they’ve been missing away from Pittsburgh — their personality, physicality, the we’re-the-Steelers-and-you’re-not mentality — starting with their Thursday night game at Tennessee.

To him, beating the Eagles, 16-14, Sunday in a more-typical Steelers game in which the running game was featured, big plays were minimized and hard hitting was maximized was a start. But Hampton seeks more.

Hampton wants the defense is be more difficult for quarterbacks to decipher — he said coverages are getting signaled too early — and harder to score against. He also wants the return of the days when the Steelers acted like the home team on the road, right down to their abundance of fans in the stands.

The Steelers (2-2) have dropped their last three on the road and four of five, a reversal from their 7-1 record away from Heinz Field in 2010

Weren't the Raiders and Browns supposed to be the tonic for the Steelers struggles in 2009? With Polamalu out and given that Crappy Carson Palmer was able put up 34 points against the Polamaluless Steelers, I am concerned what Hasselbeck was able to do. Yes Hasselbeck is a shell of his former self, but he is still better than Palmer

Yeah, I have a feeling they're about to suffer another embarrassing loss, only this time both sides of the ball will be to blame. I did not have a good feeling coming out of Sunday's game and I have no confidence in their ability to win on the road right now.

There is absolutely no way this team should lose to Tennessee even if they play horribly. Tennessee playing their hardest and best is not as good as Pittsburgh's worst. Even without Woodley and Troy, they are better. There is NO REASON to believe that the Titans can win this game. That team is a lost cause...

Having said that, watch this be the game where Johnson and the Titans running game get back on track...and the Steelers let the Titans hang around with their historic "playing down to opponents" type if play and the Titans pull one out.

i have a feeling they arent without woodley and polamalu. Feeling its going to be tougher than it should be without them

Oakland was a game that 'there is no way we lose' also, and the outcome was a shock. Tennessee isn't a good team, supposedly, but teams that are good, bad or mediocre doesn't seem to mean anything to the Steeler's. They can win/lose to anyone. And we all know that the Steeler's play DOWN to their opponent. So, that being said, look for this to be a very interesting game. Steeler's playing on the road, playing DOWN to a team they should beat. Being 'TONIC' to what ails could be a deadly outcome. Hope not though ....GO STEELERS

Any given Sunday, or Thursday! If they didn't learn from their fiasco in Oakland, it is going to be a long night.

We'll see. I'm pretty confident going in to this game. If the offense can score a decent amount of points, I think that the Titans will have a tough time sticking with them.

I said this in the gameday thread... Road game against a shitty team on a short week. Usually a recipe for disaster for the Steelers.

The Steelers never make it easy on the road. They would have trouble blowing out the little sisters of the poor in a road game.

The Titans are Tonic alright.

The Steelers stumble about and drop the bottle of tonic and are blindly searching for it.

I think that tonic is the kind that Socrates drank. Hemlock.

Well, not hard at all to see this one coming...

And more of the same is coming right up. Another road game, against a much better Cincinnati team. I'm seeing it more clearly now. Cincinnati is going to take this team out to the woodshed. Badly.

2-4 is coming, folks.

Nope and I smell a loss in Cincy next week too.

Not only will they lose, I predict they lose by at least 2 TDs. Their defense is pretty good, and you know their offense will light up the Steelers' pathetic D. A.J. Green might put up 200 yards against Ike.

Someone spiked our tonic with roofies, rolled us on our stomachs, and log jammed us in our sleep.

I said at the beginning 7-9 year, I think after this miserable fiasco, I might have to rethink the season. I'm thinking 6-10. " HEY CLEVELAND- don't worry about going winless--you have the Steeler's twice !! " LOL

Yeah, well, um.............no. Looks like, in fact, the STEELERS were the perfect tonic for the shitty Titans.
