Bob Smizik writes in his blog today at the Post-Gazette:
"He has started 14 or more games in five of his eight seasons (2004-11) as a regular. In those five seasons, the Steelers are 62-18 and have won two Super Bowls.

"In the three seasons that Polamalu did not start 14 or more games, the Steelers were 27-21. In only one of those seasons did they make the playoffs."
But Bob also calls Polamalu a "future Hall of Famer.'' That's no slam-dunk, Bob. I once wrote, 25 years ago, that Andy Russell was a future Hall of Famer and that still hasn't happened.

it will be a tragedy if Polamalu is not in the HOF!

Yes we can win without Troy, the better question is can the steelers win with Ryan Mundy?

We can win some games, but we cannot win the Super Bowl without Polamalu. Time to draft a blue chip safety which could put us back in the Bowl in 2014.

Yes.

If our offense gets to 30 ppg (like G.B., N.E. and N.O.) we can win A LOT with an average defense.

But the problem is that the defense is terrible right now, especially in 2nd half

The defense is 26th in points per drive(The offense is 5th)

The Steelers can win without Troy Polamalu.

The question is wether or not the Defense will be adjusted without him.

EXACTLY....which also begs the question of just how much we can adjust with the existing personnel.

LeBeau has monumental task ahead of him imo.

What about without Troy AND Clark AND Mundy. Cuz the latter two are going to get suspended sooner rather than later...

I think we can but, the offense is going need to put 24-30 points on the board.

Ryan Mundy is not Troy Polamalu and he never will be. He's an obvious weak link in the Defense. A good coordinator minimizes weaknesses and maximizes strengths of the unit he's coaching. All teams will have strengths and weaknesses.

This defense isn't going to be holding teams to 10 points or less anymore, but it shouldn't be turned into a sieve giving up over 30 points every week.

On offense, our weakness is obviously the Offensive Line, so Haley minimized them by calling a quicker passing game. Ben isn't getting peeling himself off of the turf anymore.

He's got a point, though. You go all offense, you can win the Super Bowl even if your defense is the worst in the league. Just put up 500 yards passing every game and roll the dice. It's the wave of the future. Yay!

Yes Troy will be in the HOF ! And yes we can win without Troy. I love the hell out of Troy's type of play, and there is NO ONE out there that is equal to Troy's play. You don't teach his style, it's inside of him. He throw's his body into his play. Which is why it's showing now. Coach LeBeau is going to have to, no doubt, design some play's without Troy. He's going to have to double up. Come with plays to keep the QB guessing as Troy always did, floating safety's so to speak. Win can win without Troy, but it is going to have to take adjustments on our team's part. I think we will have Troy back at some time this year yet, but the future is limited.
