This s*** is gettin good now ...

Unemployed NFL star Terrell Owens is "very close" to signing a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals ... sources close to the deal tell TMZ.

Owens is famously tight with current Bengals star WR Chad Ochocinco and has expressed interest in the past about joining the squad.

despite media reports of the steelers impending demise, the bengals and ravens are in full scramble mode to add any piece that they feel may get them over the 9-7/10-6 hump.

the sad thing is, other than carson palmer, TO would probably be the highest character guy they would have on their team.

Here's how the situation has been unfolding thus far:

T.O. to Bengals report dismissed
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 23, 2010 8:46 PM ET
The burgeoning sports staff at TMZ came out with a report Friday night that Terrell Owens was "very close" to a deal with the Bengals.

A league source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the report is untrue. Then again, there was misinformation circulated about Owens' signing with the Cowboys just before it actually happened.

The Bengals hosted Owens for a visit earlier this offseason, but signed Antonio Bryant instead. They've since drafted Jordan Shipley in the third round and coach Marvin Lewis recently called receiver Andre Caldwell the most improved player on the team.

We don't doubt the Bengals are just wacky enough to make the move anyway, but it's an awkward fit.

UPDATE: Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer also says sources on both sides say the report is "not true."

Carson Palmer has pushed for T.O. signing
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 23, 2010 10:53 PM ET

We reported earlier Friday night that T.O. wasn't "very close" to signing with the Bengals, but Carson Palmer reportedly hopes that changes soon.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Palmer and Owens have been working out regularly together in California, and Palmer has been "highly impressed." The quarterback reportedly told the Bengals that Owens could be an asset to the team.

(Apparently Palmer just doesn't have enough reality show divas in his life.)

It sounds like the Bengals are at least contemplating a move, but may want to wait until training camp before making a decision. Perhaps they want to see how Antonio Bryant and Matt Jones look first.

Jones resides squarely on the roster bubble, and ESPN's Chris Mortensen writes that Bryant's knee was still a problem during the offseason. Should Bryant's knee not recover, perhaps the Bengals would be ready to take on another problem waiting to happen.

And from Chad's Twitter:

Be blessed today folks, i am so excited for training camp, especially since Batman is coming to join me

Coming soon to a city near you if your playing the Bengals, Batman= T.O. Robin= Esteban http://twitpic.com/286o1s

Bengals owner on Terrell Owens: "It is up to him. We have interest"

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 26, 2010 11:52 AM ET
The man at the very top of the Bengals organization has ended any speculation about the team's interest in Terrell Owens by freely admitting the team wants the VH1 star/possession receiver.

"It is up to him," Brown said today at the team's annual training camp media luncheon Monday. "We have interest. We are talking to him."

The Rams are also reportedly considering making an offer, which could help decide Owens' priorities. If he truly wants to contend, he'll take whatever the Bengals offer him.

If money remains the priority, St. Louis will probably get the nod.

Then again, Owens may be more concerned with starpower and the ability to generating headlines than any dollar amount. If that's the case, becoming the Joker to Chad Ochocinco's Batman makes the most sense.

Looks like it's official....

Get your popcorn ready, Cincinnati: Terrell Owens (http://www.nfl.com/players/terrellowens/profile?id=OWE755129) is coming to town.
Owens, the outspoken wide receiver and reality TV star, agreed to a one-year contract with the Bengals, a team source told NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi on Tuesday.
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora confirmed that Owens will be paid $2 million in base salary and could earn an additional $2 million in incentives. Owens received $6.5 million from the Buffalo Bills (http://www.nfl.com/teams/buffalobills/profile?team=BUF) last season........

Only Mike Brown would bring in two selfish WRs (B.O. and Antonio Bryant), who will want the ball all the time, and team them up with one of the biggest loudmouths in the game. I can see it now, atleast one will whine about not getting the ball and ochosucko will call the WR out, and you have a locker room war. I love having this team in the steelers' division

They didn't absolutely need another WR, but it does make them a better team, so why not? And T.O. may be past his prime, but when you're talking about a guy who stays in the kind of shape he does and has had a Hall of Fame worthy career, it's still a pretty good acquisition. The guy put up 829 yards in Buffalo without the semblance of a quarterback...I think he'll be fine in Cincinnati.

And you have to think to the contrary, right?

All I know is that it makes the Bengals better on paper. No one can say for sure how things will shake out on the field. Opposing fans will point to the fact that he's a locker room cancer who will complain about the team's performance and not getting enough balls. I would refer them to the fact that he played on a terrible team last season without making a peep.

Opposing fans also look at the Bengals as a team full of misfits and social deviants that could implode at any moment. I look at the team as being full of guys with a chip on their shoulder who are out to prove themselves. No one wanted guys like Dhani Jones, Tank Johnson, Cedric Benson, Chris Crocker, Roy Williams, Bernard Scott, but the Bengals gave them a chance and were rewarded with guys who were highly motivated to keep their careers alive and prove everyone wrong. As a result, the Bengals had a pretty solid season last year. Will this formula prove successful again in 2010-2011? Who knows, but they won't be any more or less of an uncertainty than any other team in the league.
