PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Former Pittsburgh Steeler Rod Woodson joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93.7 The FAN in Pittsburgh to talk about the Steelers season, and the impact of the replacement officials.

Steelers Safety Ryan Clark’s impact on the second game of the year against the Jets was impressive, and makes the guys wonder if his presence is more important to the Steelers than Troy Polamalu’s. Woodson said “I think Ryan is hard to replace because I think Ryan, he’s kind of an enforcer back there” but that’s it’s hard to replace good players in general, so one isn’t more important than the other.

When it came to discussing the replacement refs, Woodson compared them to substitute teachers saying “the players and the coaches are like the student…and these substitute refs are like the substitute teachers. Most kids don’t respect the substitute teacher until the substitute teacher makes them respect the person.”

We wrapped things up with Woodson getting his thoughts on the NFL now being a pass first league, and where Ben Roethlisberger stacks up in his Quarterback rankings.

So, Rod's not coaching the Oakland secondary anymore? They really cleaned house.

I don't think that the replacements are that much worse than the regular refs. At least they call roughing the passer when committed against Steeler QBs. Anyone who thinks the regular refs are so much better and don't make the mistakes should be reminded of the Polamalu interception that was somehow overturned

it happens to all referees make mistakes, but the problem is that its referee made big mistakes in each game

the Steelers are currently the 3rd most penalized team in the NFL!

Pat fans called Sirius today and complained about the holding call on Gradkowski that took the go ahead TD off the board. My sentiments are that the Pats are not accustomed to being penalized not to mention taking points or a winning TD off the board. Now some of it being spread around. Just think of who might have gone to the SB if certain teams were not targeted by the NFL.
