PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers will work extra hard this week on their struggling running game.

At his weekly Tuesday press conference, coach Mike Tomlin expressed disappointment that the Steelers ranked 30th in the league with only 70.5 yards per game.

Tomlin didn’t even sound encouraged that the Steelers ran the ball more effectively in the fourth quarter of last week's 27-10 win over the Jets. On a game-clinching drive that lasted 10:13, eight of the 14 plays were runs that gained 31 yards (3.9 per carry).

“I’m looking for more than that, obviously,” said Tomlin.

Starting running back Isaac Redman has carried 23 times in two games for only 45 yards (2.0 ypc). Backup Jonathan Dwyer has fared a little better with 71 yards on 21 carries (3.4 pc).

However, left guard Willie Colon admitted that the offensive line needs to do a better job of opening up running lanes.
