Steelers notebook: Wallace working toward starting opener

Steelers receiver Mike Wallace isn’t saying whether he’ll start in Denver on Sunday, less than a week after ending his extended holdout. The way he’s talking, he’ll be satisfied merely with playing.

Wallace worked extensively in practice Thursday — fellow receiver Antonio Brown said he was as fast as ever — but said later he will be happy with any role offensive coordinator Todd Haley has for him.

“We’ll have to see on Sunday,” Wallace said. “I’m working towards it (starting). I’ve been out there practicing pretty hard — to get to where I need to be. We’ll see if I’m ready to play on Sunday. But I’m feeling pretty good.”
Wallace has only a couple of more days to negotiate the new contract he wants or he must play out the season at the $2.7 million salary he was tendered as a restricted free agent. The Steelers have a policy of not negotiating contracts during the season.
