Wrong team to begin with maybe he can do better with a good team.

He also seemed to have some good athletic ability. Let's get him in our system for a little while and see what the guy can do.

With Wlilliam Gay gone, they needed to pick up Dyke to balance things out. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Was a little surprised the Raiders cut him but it is a new regime.

More of a man corner but the upside is there. Wouldn't be a bad signing.

Actually he ran the forty in 4.25.

He showed up at the combine measuring 6'1 and weighed only 175 lbs, managing only 5 reps on the bench.....From what I can see through a little research, he has beefed up slightly to 185 and hopefully gotten stronger.

What I like about this pickup is that they can use Ware to negate Wallaces speed in practice...and make him an even more precise route runner.

At 175 he can't tackle which makes sense of the reports. He should buddy up with Casey Hampton, although he could end up losing weight.

I see that he may be as beefed up as 187 pounds. Is going to have to work on run support but from everything that I see....he is able to get a good jam on the recievers at the line and stay with them. May have more of a problem in zone which requires good instincts.

He sounds a lot like Ike Taylor.

Ike runs about the same 40 and was considered inconsistent coming out of college. That is why we got him in the 4th.

In fact, if he Van Dyke puts another 10 lbs on I think he would be about the same size as Ike.

I am not saying he is the next Ike Taylor...only that they have similar physicality, athletic ability and early career similarities with regard to good potential but inconsistent.

I am really excited about this..

Our defensive Achilles Heel has often been that offenses would line 5 WR up on us and we didnt have the DB's to play man to man on them. Maybe signing a CB who excels at man to man is not by accident?

Woodleys sack numbers will be huge .

Great point....the obvious result of better coverage will be more pressure on the QB.

I just want to see which of these corners can bring the pressure like Gay did on the blitz. From what i saw during preseason the young guys appeared timid, but why go fullspeed in the preseason .

I wonder if that might the MAIN reason why we picked him up. Of course, imagine the treat it would be to watch those two race.

i see an ike vs dyke vs wallace race coming up lol. Just coming out of the draft i dismissed him as an NFL cornerback because of his size. I do believe he was in the 160's even in his final year of college ball. Good to see he has at least reasonable bulk at 187lb now. Still a raw specimen but lets see the Lake Effect does.

Being fast is great, but can he cover. break up a play, or intercept some damn passes !!?? We don't need another CB that can run beside a WR and 'push' them out of bounds after the play.

From what I see on tape and from what I am finding on his write ups....he can cover man to man and has soft hands. Its his instincts and strength that are questionable. He was thought to be one of the better CB's in the Raiders camp this off season...then lost some confindence and regressed in the last few preseason games. Good developmental player who should be able to be used in sub packages to cover the other teams speed reciever.

Conversely, I wonder if this guy has good hands...

Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Rainey, Van Dyke....:pop2:

Another potential plus of his speed. If Curtis Brown misses this week or any extended period of time, Dyke could be an asset as a gunner. Not sure how much experience he's had, but you have to love a guy that can run that fast barreling down on special teams.

He was 4.28 at 175lbs. He might he a 4.5 or worse at 187lbs.

He gets beat deep? *face palm*

That and the fact they don't look at the big picture. They look at a few highlights like the fact he ran a fast 40 and label him a "project".
