Bengals RB Cedric Benson(notes) will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday, ProFootballTalk.com and NFL Network reported Tuesday.

Benson was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault on June 29 in connection with a May 30 incident at an Austin, Texas bar. Austin police allege Benson punched a bartender outside of Annie's West bar in Austin. Benson's lawyer, David Cornwell, has said Benson did not commit a crime.

Benson, 27, rushed for 1,251 yards and six touchdowns on 301 carries in 13 games for Cincinnati in 2009.

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Tuesday that he does not expect Benson to be suspended because of the incident.

"I don't know why we we're even talking about Cedric being suspended a game," Lewis said, according to The Enquirer. "I don't even know why we're bringing it up. To me it's unbelievable. It wouldn't be brought up in 31 other cities in the country I think."

In a statement released to the media on June 29, Cornwell gave Benson's version of events:

"Late last month at a nightclub, Cedric Benson was asked to take pictures with some female fans. A man approached Cedric and objected to him posing for pictures with the women. Cedric explained that he had been asked to pose with the women and the man punched Cedric.

"An altercation followed and while Cedric was leaving the club, he was approached by another man aggressively. Believing this man was a friend of the man who had punched him, Cedric attempted to protect himself and continued out of the club. Immediately upon leaving the club, Cedric called the police. He was interviewed by the police and left the area."

Austin police have said Benson was involved in a "physical disturbance" at Annie's West with an "unknown subject." Benson, Austin police allege, refused to leave the bar after being asked by bar staff and was eventually physically escorted outside, where he is alleged to have punched a bartender.

You've got to be kidding me it wouldn't be brought up in other cities, BS. If he walks away without a suspension I'll be so mad and claim injustice!

This meeting is pointless! Let's be honest, does anyone see Benson missing a game because of this? 'Cause I for sure as hell don't. :mad2:
