Its good to see that Casey is back and healthy. This benefits the team in a couple of ways in which we have more depth at the nose tackle position and we don't run the risk of losing another rookie. Another great benefit (regardless if he was playing or not) to having Casey back is that he can continue to teach McLendon and Ta'amu.

Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers we witnessed the return of Pittsburgh Steelers nose tackle Casey Hampton to the field for the first time during the preseason and he played well. Head coach Mike Tomlin hinted this past week that Big Snack had a good week of practice and that it was possible he could see some playing time and that certainly came to fruition. Hampton, who we last saw in the loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Wild Card game last January when he tore his ACL, got the start and registered a tackle and an assist in his limited playing time. Hampton could be back next season too ala Max Starks. I wouldn't write him off just yet.

I think Hampton has earned the back-up position at the most! This is McClendons position now fair and square and with any setback, injury, or sloppy play then we have Hampton to fall back on. Also great to put Hampton in for short yardage situations where he can fill the whole and literally eat the QB....literally.
