I'm with him on this one. He was awesome this preseason, better than Redman imho.

I am not sure about better then Redman because we haven't seen much of Redman this preseason. Yes I agree Dwyer has shown some good flashes but the true test will be in regular season.

It will probably be a rotation between the 2.

That was the best I've seen him run to date. If he keeps this up and is just coming into his own, then we may really have something special with this kid. That was the first time since he was drafted that I really felt his worth. Great job Dwyer!

I'll grant you that it was just one game, but he showed that he has everything Redman has plus one thing more, the ability to cut back quickly and hit that cut back lane.

I've not thought of Redman as the complete back/starting back type of player. IMO, he's a change of pace type guy. You bring him in to finish teams off. I really think he needs to be the endzone, game-killer back. Get a good lead going into the fourth quarter, then give him the ball and let him pound it, while keeping teams off-guard with a few play actions as well.

As long as Dwyer does not start to fumble the football, he's destined to be the #1 IF he keeps this type of performance up the rest of the season. It might even be before the season ends...

I don't know. I still think Redman will get the majority of the carries until Mendenhall is back at 100%.

I agree. Dwyer has looked good, but not good enough to unseat Redman and by the time he has the chance to, Mendy will be healthy.

I don't see Isaac losing his starting role until Mendy's back nor do I see Isaac losing his starting role to Dwyer. These two could make a great one-two punch until Mendy gets back and I'd like to see that.

Since Redman didn't even play I guess I will agree. LOL.

Dwyer should not be starting in Week 1. Redman earned his spot. If Redman shows he is unable to do well then he should be replaced. Hopefully that replacement won't be Mendenhall. As they say, an ACL takes a year to come back.

The O-line didn't look that great in pre-season.

Tomlin doesn't rule out Dwyer starting at RB

It will come down to who does better in practice this week. Nothing like good healthy competition to improve the team.

Beware the Preseason Hero

This forum after a preseason loss: Psshhh its not even a real game yet so it doesnt matter if we didnt play well.

After a "dynamic" performance: OMG he's gonna be a star!

There's a bit of difference there. Preseason losses don't matter because there's very little scheming and seldom are the first teamers on the field for more than half a game. As far as individual performance, everyone is still trying to tackle the guy. So if he's doing it against the other teams' first team, then it is something special. It's no guarantee, but it's much different than a loss in preseason.

I just think that Dwyer has shown a lot of Suddenness and Glide.

(nope, still can't do it with a straight face).

Redman has shown me a lot in the regular season, I think Redman should start, although Dwyer has certainly earned significant playing time. I would like to see how Dwyer performs in the regular season

Bringing that and the "Saint Ben" threads back up provided some much-needed laughs today. Gooood times! :chuckle:
