Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger put together his best drive in Todd Haley's offense at the end of the first half in Saturday night's 38-7 preseason win in Buffalo.

But it really wasn't Haley who was calling the shots on the 11-play, 98-yard drive.

"I just started calling my own plays," Roethlisberger told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We went no-huddle and up-tempo and we were throwing the ball."

The Steelers ought to think about giving more control of the offense to Roethlisberger outside of the last two minutes of the half. The Ravens are certainly allowing Joe Flacco to direct the offense more this season.

And the Steelers' starters weren't exactly lighting it up this preseason. Before that marathon drive, this is how the Steelers' first-team offense had fared in its 12 possessions this preseason: eight punts (including five three-and-outs), two touchdowns, one field goal and one interception.

On Friday night, Roethlisberger was 10 of 16 for 77 yards with Haley calling the plays (a quarterback rating of 74.2). When Roethlisberger decided to call the plays, which came two plays after the Steelers were flagged for 12 men in the huddle, he was 7 of 8 for 92 yards and one touchdown (a rating of 154.1).

As I said in the gameday thread, here we go with the false narrative that "Haley calls the plays that don't work while Ben calls the plays that do"

Ben Roethlisberger called his own plays against Buffalo, upset with the sideline. Yes, this Todd Haley thing is going very smoothly.

Let Ben do his own thing. It seems to work a lot better.

Uh yeah...he was upset with the sideline because they had just gotten flagged for an illegal substitution, where a player came onto the field late. But let's just go with the "Ben hates Haley" thing. Gotta get those hits up!

Well if you look close, Ben is looking to his left, Haley's eyes are on the field. This stuff is beyond childish now.

Ben needs to pay attention to the field. He'll get a talking to after Haley sees this...
