Yes, it's sad that a kid was brain damaged by a ball hit by an aluminum bat. But, 14.5 MILLION DOLLARS?
Notice who was sued. The bat manufacturer, Little League (and note, it wasn't even a LL sanctioned game...it was a Police Athletic League game...and they avoided the suit, probably because they have no real assets), and, AMAZINGLY, Sports Authority were all sued here.
I'm speechless. No wonder it's nearly impossible to do business in this uber litigious country.

They're aiming for the skies hoping for a large settlement. If it were to go to court, I can't see a jury supporting that. Sports Authority? Come on people. What argument could they POSSIBLY give to bring them into the mix.
Hell, you may as well sue Ford / Dodge etc for auto accidents.

Seems like the US is rewriting the book when it comes to tort law. Unbelievable.

The entitlement society has damaged this country beyond repair, and these frivolous lawsuits are just one product of it

Something needs to be done about this, because this is absolutely outrageous. There is no sense of personal responsibility anymore, and we simply have way too many fucking lawyers in this country. It's almost gotten to the point where you're taking a risk of being sued just by walking out your front door every day.

Why didn't they sue the maker of the glove? It's obviously a defective glove that caused this kid not to CATCH the ball.
Why not sue the opposing coach that taught the kid to hit so hard, or the kid that hit the ball so hard?
Oh.....wait. No cash.
This comes down to lack of accountability, and no sense of personal responsibility again. It's not the BAT'S fault that this kid didn't catch the ball. It's not Little League's fault. It's not Sports Authority's fault. The kid missed a hard hit ball and it popped him in the chest. At best, it's nobodies fault, and, quite honestly, if we're all truthful with ourselves, it's probably a good bit of the kids own fault for not catching the ball. Actions have consequences, and not catching hard-hit line drives can hurt you or maybe even kill you. Always could, always will, aluminum bat or not...
