Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill is exceptionally vulnerable in Missouri, which has tilted quite a bit to the right recently. This is a seat the GOP expected to win and needs to win in order to retake the Senate. Even though Akin won a 3-way GOP runoff in the primary, he is also the candidate McCaskill MOST wanted to face because he's the most conservative, thereby the most vulnerable in a general.

(This is why it is a mistake, by the way, to nominate extremists in the GOP primaries. It's why "Wiccan Witch TEA Party favorite" Christine O'Donnell got trounced by Chris Coons in Delaware in her Senate race, and why Harry Reid retained his seat against Sharon Angle in Nevada.)

In fact, McCaskill SO wanted to run against Akin, she even ran campaign ads FOR him, telling voters just how conservative he really is. It seemed to work, since he won. (Here is one of the ads http://www.businessinsider.com/claire-mccaskill-todd-akin-missouri-senate-campaign-ad-2012-8 ).

Surprisingly, Missourians hate McCaskill so much that Akin HAD a comfortable lead over her, despite his extremism. Not now. This idiot goes on national TV, makes up some shit about rape, and is now running a dead tie with McCaskill. He should step down, and is being, um, encouraged to do so by everyone from Rush Limbaugh to Paul Ryan. Hopefully he will, but so far he's soldiering on.

Anyway, if he sticks in this race, he will almost certainly lose. And that means TWO seats elsewhere the GOP will have to make up. Hopefully, he will step down. He has already decided not to go to the convention. Hopefully this knucklehead does the right things and resigns the race...

Is that the moron that made the statement about when a woman is raped, that the female body has a safeguard against getting pregnant in dire / stressfull situations and if she does get pregnant then the abortion should not be allowed?

I dont' remember the exact words, but essentially what I took from it was that he was saying if a woman gets raped and pregnant from that rape that it is her fault.

I think he'll step out soon, the pressure is really starting to come down on him. He's got to know he can't win after a gaff of that proportion, he's only hurting the Senate chances if he sticks around.

I'm being bombarded by liberal tripe trying to tie Romney to Akin and Ryan's views on rape and abortion to Akin. This REEKS of desperation...the "Akinization of the GOP".

I honestly don't see how anyone could be swayed by this garbage. Even Ryan himself said "Romney is at the top of the ticket and his administrations policy will be his own". The GOP has no intention of touching Roe V Wade, instead they are taking this up (and rightly so) at the state level.

The latest Rasmussen Poll has McCaskill up 10 points and Real Clear Politics now ranks it Leans Dem after being a toss-up for so long. Of course RCP should just rank it Safe Dem for as long as Akin is in the race

It's idiots like this who are going to ruin any chance of getting Obama out of the White House. Hard to imagine someone in this country being that ignorant and uneducated, but here you go. He should never have the opportunity to run for any kind of public office again.

The difference between legitimate rape and illegitimate rape? Webster defines them as:

Legitimate Rape- 1. the unlawful compelling of a person through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse.

2. any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person.

Illegitimate Rape- 1. the act of removing citizen's rights and freedoms.

2. the act of transforming a formerly robust society into that of a welfare state.

3. the political games played by liberal politicians to distract attention away from the real issues and divert attention away from their public records.

4. the act of moving a society away from capitalism towards socialism/communism against the will of the majority.

5. the redistribution of wealth.

6. government forcing citizens to buy goods/services from private companies and/or to eat brocoli.
