President Barack Obama's re-election campaign spent more money than it raised last month.

His team took in $49.2 million in July but spent $59 million, according to the campaign's monthly filing with the Federal Election Commission released Monday.

The campaign reported finishing the month with $87.7 million in the bank, down from $97.7 million at the beginning of July.

Reports also show that when combining the Obama campaign's haul with that of the Obama Victory Fund and the Democratic National Committee, the Obama re-election effort had considerably less money in the bank–about $124 million–than Mitt Romney's campaign and allies by the end of July.

While Romney's filing for last month has yet to be published, the campaign announced earlier in August that its campaign–plus the Romney Victory Fund and Republican National Committee–had $185.9 million in the bank.

Seems he's running his campaign like he's running the country, over a cliff.

He outspent McCain 7-1 in battleground states last election after he declined the public money he earlier vowed to take (See, that's not a great and auspicious start when your President starts off his campaign by lying about the funding of his campaign!). He will not have that advantage this time. Romney is out-earning him, too...

Spending more than he takes in. He's running his campaign just like he's run this country his entire failure of a presidency

His heavy spending has put Romney on the defensive instead of vice versa. Obama "should" be losing in the polls IF the majority of America's were focused on the economy. However, most of the polls I've seen shows Obama ahead (in potential electoral votes). Research shows that usually by the end of the summer most people have made up their minds about a candidate. I think Romney has possibly made a huge mistake by waiting for the last round and going for the "knock-out punch".

The polls will start mattering around the debates. The fact is, after all the mudslinging Obama has done, the polls have remained virtually unchanged...Obama's main strategy was to define Romney before he could define himself. I'd say it's largely failed.

Rasmussen has it at a virtual tie, now, by the way, with my state deciding.

http://www.nationalpolls.com/stories/2012/0820-obama-rasmussen.html

We end up with Obama 256, Romney 251. The deciding state will be Ohio which RR had as a tie. Colorado and New Hampshire are not filled in either but they will not sway the election.
The last Rasmussen Reports polls (http://www.nationalpolls.com/stories/2012/0810-obama-284.html) had Obama winning Ohio and Wisconsin. The former has become a tie and the latter has moved in Romney's favor.
A month ago, we reported that Ohio (http://www.nationalpolls.com/stories/2012/0717-electoral-map.html) will be the deciding state. Continues to look that way.
