A Michigan school district will not have to go through with plans to make students pay to play sports after Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley stepped in to help.

As a result of budget cuts, Saginaw Public Schools implemented a fee of $75 this year for students wanting to play sports. When Woodley, a 2003 Saginaw High School graduate, heard about that, he contacted the school district, asked how much money those fees would collect, and then told them to scrap the fees because he’d cover the $60,000 himself.

Woodley has declined to draw any attention to himself for his donation, but the school’s athletic director, Dan Szatowski, told the Saginaw News that hundreds of kids are going to benefit from Woodley’s generosity.

Mr. Woodley you sir are a Class Act!!! This coming from a guy who was the best deal in the NFL on his rookie contract and you never heard him say a whole lot about it he simply sweated it out played through the contact and got paid.

Thank you for being a Steeler and more importantly thank you for your gracious actions!!!

Leader Role model!!!

One of my best friends lives in Saginaw, and she cannot say enough good things about LaMarr - - - he has done so much for the community and has given back so much - - and he doesn't go around blowing his own horn about all of this.....

If karma has anything to do with things, I hope that he is blessed with his most successful year ever... If so, it will be good for all of us.....

I'm very proud of him. Sports are secondary to academics, but they still have a lot of value.

What an awesome thing to do!

Woodley, a Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, donated the money for the entire school district, not just his alma mater.
“What a blessing,” Szatkowski said. “He did it for all the kids in Saginaw, not just Saginaw High. It’s for Arthur Hill, SASA, Willie Thompson, Arthur Eddy … all the schools.

This is an awesome thing to do. It's a shame some districts have a pay to play system. Everyone should at least have the opportunity to try out.

Reminds me of Hines! Just a class act all around and not sitting back crying about money, wanting more, blah blah! Def. earns much respect from me!

I'm by no means a big Hensley fan but I have to give him props on this one. I think his article is better written and speaks a lot more about the type of person LaMarr is.
