Isn't that the deal that was offered to Wallace, or at least was rumored a couple of days ago.

Hmmm, is Wallace out the door now? Trade him for a 3rd and 4th?

Definitely. Nice buy-low instead of Brown having another great season and him costing 20 million more for proving himself in back-to-back years.

They are not offering Wallace 2.7mil, that is the price tag for Wallace being a RFA. I'm sure their contract talks were in the same ball park as Antonio's.

No no this is the contract breakdown.

Brown gets a signing bonus of $8.5 million plus a base salary of $540,000 in 2012.

In 2013, he receives a $2.5 million roster bonus and a $2 million base salary.

In 2014, the salary increases to $6 million.

It stays at $6 million in 2015 before increasing to $8.25 million in 2016.

Finally, he receives $8.71 million in 2017.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/27/steelers-ink-antonio-brown-to-long-term-deal/

So they would still be paying Wallace more this season and are willing to negotiate for a bigger deal, however Wallace has to get his butt to Latrobe.

If it's true Mike is in negotiations "personally" with the Steelers "against" the wishes of his agent... he's in WAY over his head. Wallace had BETTER do his homework if he plans on stretching this out for an extended period of time... 31 other teams might play it, but the Steelers don't play dat BS !!!

If I were him, I would not wait too long. Rainey is already making noise and if Clemons or Maze continues to impress, Wallace will be on the outside looking in. Maybe after he spends a couple of seasons in Washington or Arizona, he will appreciate what he could have had here.

Isn't it prorated over the life of the entire contract? However the roster bonus in 2013 won't hit until its paid out.

I'm pretty sure that is accurate but I'll look into it more.

Yes, that's how the bonus works. I was just asking if it counts against 2012 as well. I don't think it will but I'm not positive.

EDIT: Technically, it can only be spread for a max of five years. But that's splitting hairs.

But Wallace is always with the steelers and may have a long term contract and the Steelers can put the tag on wallace in 2013

Any scenario where Mike Wallace doesn't play this season is only going to hurt him for any future deal whether it be with Pittsburgh or another team.

He will play for us this season. What he is getting paid is another story.

TMC

Brown receives the $8.5M signing bonus today, when he signs the deal. So, $1.7M of that counts against the salary cap this season. He had a salary of $540,000 prior to the extension and it stays the same, so there is a net increase to the 2012 salary cap of $1.7M. The Steelers also opted to use their veteran cap credits of $500,000 this season, increasing the cap by $1.5M. So, they basically have the same working space as they had prior to the deal.

As for him getting Wallace's deal, not really. Brown got a $42.5M extension, meaning it spreads over 6 years. The total deal is 6 years, $43.04M. That is just over $7M per season. If Wallace had signed, it would have been a 5 year deal for $42.5M, for an average of $8.5M per season. The extra year from the extension makes Brown's deal more cap friendly.

Let me also add, while I love Antonio Brown and think he is the epitome of getting everything out of your physical skills. Here is a guy that is 5'10"-185, did not run great prior to the draft, but has flat out outworked everyone around him to excel. Gotta love that. With that said, Wallace is a freak with a huge ceiling. He is 6003-200 pounds with speed to burn. Fast guys call him fast. He was raw, still is. I like Brown, but I do not know how much further Brown can take his game. He works so hard to be the guy he is. He may be what he is. Wallace works, but he has so much further to go. If I could ink Wallace, I would do my best to get it done. I definitely would not throw that baby out with the bath water.

The Steelers know Wallace isn't listening to his agent so this move SHOULD move Wallace "emotionally". Either he'll throw a tantrum and walk away, or if he's a "real one", he'll come back home. Like the article said, the ball is in Mike's court... We should have a response from Wallace (positive or negative) before too long. WHATEVER perspective that response might reflect (yea or nea toward working with the Steelers this year)... the NEXT response from Wallace will tell us if he will be a Steeler, or not, for the long term... I can bout guarantee you it...

The Steelers reached a five-year extension with Antonio Brown that could keep him with the team through the 2017 season. A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the extension is worth $42.5 million.

this is 6 years for 43 millions

Right. I'm saying that more then likely he will be with us this year and then next as a URFA he would go elsewhere if he is pissed off, but as you said we will know soon enough how he feels and what he wants to do.

It was in my twitter. I want to say it was Mark Kaboly or Steelers Depot. Cannot recall the exact one. The thing is, they still have enough cap space to sign Wallace.

And, that $2.5M roster bonus next year, you can damn well bet they turn it into bonus money that get spread over the deal (like they did with Timmons and Woodley). It would prorate to $500K per year for the life of the deal and cut the 2013 salary cap by $2M. Just a built in way to work the cap.

Hell Yeah.......... Love Brown he is a True Steeler Number one WR.. Wallace dont let the door hit you in the ass bud... You can go join Plex and Santonio and waste away with some other team.. we have team players here that understand you got to spread the money around a little to win championships.. I hope the Rooneys move on for sure... how disrespectfull of Wallace... You look that the rooenys the past 10 or so years since we got our new stadium... We pay our players unless they are getting old and want something they are not worth anymore...aka Alan F... but for the most part if you come to camp keep your mouth shut and be a steeler u will get your money... Wallace is a fucking idiot... Ha Ha... what does he think he will get now if he sits out most of this year???? hello retard you wont get more then the steelers were willing to pay you in the first place... No team is gonna pay him 15 mil a year after playing the way he did the final 6 games and sitting out most of the season the next year... he should have come to camp... signed something like a 5 year 55 mil contract or 6 for 65 and been one of the happiest dudes in the locker room.. but nope he is toast now... You would think he had more brains then this... Woodely got paid... harrison been paid.. Ben Paid.. Troy P paid... Hampton has always been paid... timmons got paid..... Miller one of highest paid TE in game when he signed his... wallace would have been paid top 5 top 10 in the game but nope that wasnt good enough for him... what a joke.... Lets play ball baby..... with guys that want to Win A superbowl and go over the middle and hit somebodys ass.... Wallace go get your money and waste away somewhere else....

Yes with those guys we would be the best WR core in football... but the money we would spend to keep them can not be done... aslo keep in mind having 3 number one Type WR is not as important in Haleys O.... We will use the RB and TE and everyone more... BA basically said go deep... jail break WR get open BEN will find you... BEN hit WR up and down the field half the time and the other half the time got shit knocked out of him for a sack... Haley will have guys running everywhere and kicking ass... We will be using our Backs like Faulk was for rams... Forte for Bears... deadly weapons... we will have to sign guys like Pouncey... down the road... Gilbert... with our new draft picks Adams and Decastro if they turn out to be pro bowl players look at the money there...; bottom line you cannot and the steelers will not pay two WR number one kind of money... not when we have a team full of talent like we do... Wallace is done.. but the good news is we dont need him.. we got so many weapons its unreal.... Lets go win the superbowl with Team players and Steeler Players... Like Antiono Brown ( aka Hines Jr with speed..) Team players baby... the steeler way... Wallace go join Plexico and Santiono in New York and waste away or go to jail

I like Brown, but I do not know how much further Brown can take his game. He works so hard to be the guy he is. He may be what he is.

Even if that's true, so what? He's pretty damn good as-is. 1,000+ receiving yards and 1,000+ return yards is pretty outstanding by anyone's standards.

funny i was thinking the same thing. Congrats to Brown, I saw Wallace at a signing show but alot of fans were not lining up because they thought he would not be around this yr.

I told him that day, " Nothing wrong with getting your money man, but look around you, money doesnt buy that" He chuckled and we took the picture after the reps had to stop us from chatting up since we had gone for like 2 mins.

Big congrats to Antonio. This is well deserving for someone who works extremely hard on the field and also has a great personality off the field. He may be the next great Steeler receiver.

Well done and congrats to AB, but I remember reading a Steelers tweet yesterday explaining there is still plenty of room to get a deal done with Wallace, but the kid has to end the stubbornness and get his ass back to camp!

I only trust a few individuals in this world and trust even fewer in business. I would trust the Rooney's to do the right thing like they ALWAYS do. They have been doing it for almost 80 years. Come on Mike.

*Wallace might be faster in a straight line, but both have the same hands and Brown is a better all around football player and team mate at this point.

Great move. Not only is it signing a damn good player, but you know this was also designed as a 'slap in the face' of sorts to wallace. Hope he reacts to it in a good way.

A big credit goes out to Omar Khan, Kevin Colbert, and The Rooney's on this signing. Not only have the Steelers now locked up the top WR, who is in camp, but have given a new perspective for Mike Wallace to consider.

The Steelers were going to have the same contract situation for AB come next season as they do this offseason with Mike Wallace. In signing him to an extension this offseason they lock him up for 5 years with a contract that only guarantees $9 million. With respect to Mike Wallace, by giving Brown the extension Mike Wallace is now shown that the Steelers will negotiate with Players who are in camp.

Hey Mike, I hear you are looking for money. The money is in Latrobe. Get to camp...get paid.

I am the walrus.

Wasn't Hines Ward in the same boat? Not over talented but an extremely hard worker?

No. For him it was "too small, too slow" and missing some sort of ligament in one of his knees?

Ward was born without ACLs.
