Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints have reached an agreement on a five-year, $100 million contract that all sides concur will guarantee Brees an NFL-record $60 million, including a first-year take in 2012 of $40 million, according to league, players union, and team sources.
The accord was struck Friday morning in the latest round of negotiations between Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and Brees's agent, Tom Condon

He is worth $20 million a year but did it really say Brees would make $40 million in 2012? If so that is a little much

What happens if he gets injured in 2012 ? Of course I don't want him to get hurt, but it's a possibility for EVERY player in the NFL :noidea:

Well we all knew they would strike a deal because without Brees the Saints would be cooked.

I think they are pretty "well done" already. :chuckle:

The Saints needed this. No player is worth $40 mill in ONE season though...

That contract is just straight up crazy, but what he did for that franchise he deserves it.

Exactly. Their 2012 season has effectively been tanked already, IMO.

Agreed.
...However they probably NEED him more than ever.
He is arguably to the Saints what Manning was to the Colts.
I wouldn't wish this this stuff on any team* though Gary...

I'm not willing to say their season is tanked even though it wouldn't be a surprise if they didn't have a good year. As long as Brees is under center I think they are a threat to compete in that division.
That being said even if the Saints weren't having problems that division is going to be a challenge anyway. I still would bet on Drew Brees though.

The saints will never tanked...Especially with Brees as QB
I expect at least 10 wins for the Saints
