The Miami Dolphins and free agent wide receiver Chad Ochocinco have agreed to terms on a one-year deal.

The Dolphins worked out Ochocinco after he was released by the New England Patriots on Thursday.

Ochocinco, 34, is a Miami native. He made the Pro Bowl six times, most recently in 2009, but had only a minor role in his lone season with the Patriots, catching 15 passes for 276 yards.

Miami is thin at the receiver position after trading Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears in March for two third-round draft picks. The Dolphins then didn't draft a receiver until the sixth round. New Miami head coach Joe Philbin conceded there has been room for improvement in the pass-catching during offseason workouts, including an OTA Monday.

They traded away a play-making wide receiver in Brandon Marshall for two third round draft picks and now they've signed a guy in Chad Ochocinco who couldn't get separation or learn the Patriots offense last season. He put up his worst stats ever last year with a future Hall of Fame quarterback throwing him the ball. I don't know if his stats could get any worse, but there's a chance that happens this season between Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill throwing him the football.

He should change his name back to Chad Johnson. Have fun in South Beach.

Have fun is all he can do now. Dolphins could be in for a very long season.

Johnson still has the physical tools to help a team but if all the reports out of New England are accurate, they better have a playbook for him that consists of a five route tree on one side of the field where he doesn't have to motion at all.

I think it's a fine experiment for one year. He's not quite the headache Terrell Owens is in my opinion, and maybe his time with the Patriots taught him something about keeping quiet.

The only issue I have is this could slow the development of some decent young receivers on the Miami roster. Brian Hartline gives a ton of effort and has shown flashes, Davone Bess is solid and they have a kid in Roberto Wallace who could really turn into something. And of course Clyde Gates has potential. Despite how much the media has been putting the receiving staff of the Dolphins' down, I'm rather partial to it - even before the signing of Chad Johnson.

Business as usual - they will continue to suck for the foreseeable future.
