Running the ball more effectively is...and that's what I hope Haley can do for this Offense.

I agree. With the improved O Line, this should become the case.

Not sure I completely agree with that. I do agree that running more effectively is more important, but when you look at the Steelers Super Bowl teams over the past two SB runs, they played with balanced offenses. In 2010, they ran it 471 and threw it 479. It was almost a 50-50 split. In 2008, it was 52% pass, 48% run. I think when you see the numbers edging heavily to one side, either pass or run, then it shows you have a deficiency in the other area. Why did we throw more? Because we could not run. With Cowher, why did we run more? We could not throw.

I think they need to work to play with balance. The balance will come from being able to execute in both areas. But I believe the two areas (effectiveness and run/pass ratio) are too intertwined to state you need to do one without it effecting the other. IMO, if we throw it 55% of the time or more, it is because we still cannot run it effectively.

Just going to take it one week at a time. (thought I would add another redundant cliche to this thread)

Isn't that a given? No one wants to run the ball ineffectively:grin:

Running is okay as long as you don't fumble.

The Steelers had run the ball 70% of the time during the suspension of Roethlisberger in 2010. This was the reason why the percentage was 50% for run-pass ratio!

But whatever, I want the offense be the best possible regardless of the run-pass ratio.

But I am not a conservative offense

Just do enough of each (running and passing) that you don't get predictable. That could mean running the ball 70% of the time or 30% of the time; it all depends on how you do it and why.

The improved OL ought to help us be tons more effective when we do run, though. Looking forward to that.

The offense moved the ball just fine, it was scoring that was the issue, which i believe was due too bad situational play calling.

I agree

The Steelers made too many mistakes in the red zone(INT,Sacks,Fumble, miss field goal, etc) The other problem was the field position

No they did not run it 70% of the time. Exaggerate much? The Steelers ran it 115 times in those 4 games while throwing it 81. They did not even run it 60% of the time and that was also skewed by the Bucs game where Batched trashed them in the air for 3 TDs and 300 yards on 17 passes. They called the dogs off and ran the clock out in that game. The first and fourth games were very balanced.

Just run more effectively ... IN THE RED ZONE... and we'll be fine.

In 2010, the Steelers had the worst passing offense after four games. They were also last for the first down....And the Steelers had only had 21 passing yards and seven first down against the Titans.

The game against Tampa Bay was the only good game for the offense
