Somebody needs to seriously beat some sense into this guy. The only way for this claim to have legs is for A) Tebow to think his own name is Jesus or B) That only HE can lay claim to knowing Jesus.

Tebow's attorneys put it this way: "The Merchandise makes it appear as if Mr. Tebow actually endorses Cubby Tees and its products." Where that actually happens is a bit of a mystery.
The shirt, as you can see, remixes the Jets logo (http://sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=v7tehkwthrwefgounvi7znf5k) to a more Jesus-friendly theme. The "NY" is replaced with "MY" and the "JETS" is replaced with "JESUS." In addition, what's normally a football at the bottom of the logo is the "Ichthys," or "sign of the fish," often used to express faith.
And yes, when you think of Jesus and the Jets together, you probably think of Tebow, but the shirt itself contains absolutely no Tebow references. I am neither a theologian nor a lawyer, but I don't think Tebow is the only one allowed to claim Jesus as "My Jesus." But again, I'm not sure exactly how close Tebow and Jesus are. I could be wrong about that.

I can kind of see his point, but his tactic here is a bit extreme.

Perhaps the Jets might have a case.

He could have a point. I mean, if you made this shirt, there wouldn't be much doubt which player you meant:

Just alter the Pats* logo enough so they can't claim trademark infringement. It would be hilarious.

Really that is a mystery? With Tebow's public stance on his faith and his move to the Jets is there any reasonable doubt that someone is trying to make a buck of Tebow's image?
If the company wants to use the My Jesus phrase fine do it but why the similarity in logo design?

He is not claiming he owns the right to the name Jesus that is just pure hyperbole on your part.
Suit sometime I think you just try to hard "Somebody needs to seriously beat some sense into this guy."
"Seriously" do you think these shirts would be produced if Tim had not gone to New York? He has a right to look for judicial relief if he feels someone is using him, without his permission, as an assumed endorsement and for MANY it would not be a far jump to infer that Tebow must have agreed to this.

Well, it's obviously a reference to Tebow. But it doesn't use his name or image so it's hard for him to make a case. A disclaimer on their website should be sufficient to cover them.

Yeah, let's reel it in here. There's no case here at all...if we start saying that even things that bear a passing resemblance to something else now ARE that something else, where will it end.
Tebow is an asshole, and this is more proof of it. This has NOTHING to do with him at all...no name, no image, and, again, the only connection is the fact that Tebow is a Christian. Should ALL the Christians on the Jets sue?

As you said, the Jets might have a case if they cared about this. But strictly from a legal perspective, I doubt Tebow has any standing to bring a lawsuit over it.
Course, that doesn't stop people from having an attorney make threats anyway to try and get their way by scaring the small guy. Which is basically the legally sanctioned version of bullying, and ergo makes one a complete douche.

It's just creepy. I've BEEN sick of the whole Tebow/God/Jesus thing & wish they would give it a break. Enough already.
