The Pittsburgh Steelers may have finished 12-4 in 2011, but there were a lot of holes schematically that the team should consider changing up to ensure a more successful 2012. The Steelers will feature a new offense, but how different remains to be seen.

Defensively, Dick LeBeau has a tried-and-true system, but there is still plenty of room for adjustment to accommodate new personnel and to disguise some of the issues that hurt the team previously.

Here's a look at six things that Mike Tomlin and company should take under advisement.

One of the many criticisms of the Steelers offense in recent seasons is that the team completely abandoned their previous identity as a smashmouth rushing team. Pittsburgh has a chance to change all of that now that they've gotten reinforcements along the line.

Isaac Redman also gives them a player who will be able to regularly bulldoze the defenses of the league and make his own holes. The Steelers might actually be in better shape with him on the prowl.

While I wouldn't expect the offense to skew too far toward the run, I do think that the Steelers will run a little more often than they've done in the past.

I agree.

...and hopefully the running backs won't have to make as many of their own holes this year...

it is going to be nice seeing 66 opening up big holes and pulling and dozing over LBers

Here is something for LeBeau, stop running the prevent defense. It cost the steelers a playoff spot in 2009 and the division last year

There's no reason to run the same play three times trying to bulldoze into the end zone when the team has a tight end in Miller and a wide receiver in Jerricho Cotchery that can do quite well in traffic. That needs to change.

You can tell the article is chalk full of anti-Arians tones, too.

And the nightmare of, "A corner will jump and house it" the writer spoke of happened a grand total of zero times last year.

That usually means chalk full of logic/common sense

This article was really stupid. In fact, it sounds like it was crafted by a culmination of some of the nitwits who post here.

-Run a lot more no-huudle (which skews about 70/30 pass) AND run the ball a lot more? Dumb. We're at 55/45. That's fine.
-Throw the ball a lot more to Heath Miller? OK...first off, we have been...secondly, how? If we're going to throw the ball a lot more, how can we feed Wallace (presuming he's back), Brown, Sanders, Cotchery AND utilize Rainey AND get Miller "more involved"?
-Pass..................more in the redzone? The whole complaint before was that we PASSED too much in the RZ.
-Now that Gay is gone, whose arguable strong suit was tackling and blitzing, we should blitz more with kids we know little to nothing about? OK...
-And, of course, the rallying cry of the mentally impaired: "Stop the bubble screen!". Yes, let's remove a weapon that averaged 6 yards per play and takes PERFECT advantage of our WR's speed and ability to move in space.

I guess the bright spot was that the spelling and grammar was correct.

1: "No huddle" and 2: "Mix the run" - are contradictory. Not to mention running was "mixed in" fine under Arians, it was just largely unsuccessful.

3: "Abandon the bubble screen" - You should never "abandon" anything that works well on a league-wide basis. I didn't like how the bubble screen was implemented in our recent offenses, but the play itself is fine. Abandoning it would be silly.

4: "Sean Spence, Blitz Monster" - Okay... I'm sure he'll have plent of opportunities to rush the passer in coach LeBeau's scheme once he proves he is worthy of being on the field. I don't get this one. Are we supposed to believe Spence is a better pass rusher than Harrison, Woodley, Timmons, Worilds or Carter right now? There isn't room on this team for a pass rushing specialist.

5: "Bring the corners" - This is something that could be done, but if you do it a dozen times a game it's not going to be nearly as effective as it is when it's a surprise. That's one of the biggest strengths blitzing a corner presents.

6: "Throw to Heath Miller in the redzone" - This is a suggestion that gets me fired up. I hear this all the time. "Throw it to Miller in the redzone!". Yeah, great idea. But when he's covered what the hell do you want the quarterback to do? It's not just so simple as to say "Throw it to this player!" Heath Miller is a great tight end, but he doesn't have some magic repellant that keeps defenders five yards away from him in all different directions just because he's in the endzone. He has a man on him too, ya know.
