That's not a bad offensive line. Maybe Ben won't get sacked a bazillion times this season.

24. David DeCastro, G, Stanford: A+ Grade
Unbelievable. The Steelers somehow land a guy who could be the top guard in the NFL over the next decade. David DeCastro could have gone as high as No. 11. It's really amazing how smart organizations like Pittsburgh can take advantage of dumb teams making stupid decisions year after year. This is the best pick of the 2012 NFL Draft thus far.

I agree!

Charlie Casserley just said on NFL Network that DeCastro was the best value pick of the draft in the first round. He also said that he likes DeCastro better at this point in his career than he liked Faneca at the same point.

I said not too long ago that OG was the one position I wouldn't want to take in the first round because you can get better value later ... but man, am I happy to eat those words. There is no way in hell I thought a player of that caliber would still be available. DeCastro was one of the best linemen in the entire draft.

We just got the BEST Guard in the Draft at 24...unreal... If he stays healthy we are talking HOF material was just drafted on this team... I think he will be better then Alan F. The Steelers are great...we win because we draft steeler kind of players... this guy will make a huge difference up front for years to come... Between him and Pouncey getting out on LB's Ray Ray may as well retire or sit our game out

Just goes to show that no matter how many times you run the numbers, you still know very little.

You come up with a value chart and you stick with it... We have proved this many times when drafting.
Other teams will throw in a couple wild cards for guys they fall in love with. As long as you stick to your business, your plan, your man is always there because you simply check guys off as they get picked. When it's your turn, you just pick the highest guy on the list.

Anyway... I couldn't be happier. BPA, plus fits a glaring need. I almost feel like we cheated on this one... almost.

Welcome David DeCastro! Hallelujah!

Obviously this was a great pick in any way you want to categorize. It's rare you get a pick of such great value and need where you didn't have to trade up. I'd almost compare this to Big Ben falling to us at 11 in 2004.

One thing I question though is if there'll be any thought to transitioning DeCastro to left guard? The reason being the Steelers have traditionally used the left guard as the pulling guard. I honestly cant' remember the last time they pulled their right guard? I guess with a new offense we can scrap some of those things, but still usually you pull your left guard over your right guard to run a strong side sweep. Unless you want to flop Heath Miller to the left side I don't see how that works as well?

No, I don't think so anyway.

He needs to find his own identity in the pro's. 52 will always be Mike Webster's number.

DeCastrami Sandwich. Sounds deeeeelicious! It would have a formidable amount of meat on it. Definitely Sour Kraut to match his disposition on the field. And it would need to have a very intellectual bread... like rye. And finally it would need something to knock you down... like a wasabi horseradish thousand island dressing. Anyone who orders it, automatically gets their order put in front of a Roethlisburger. It's just safer that way.
