The Madden curse is for mortals. Or guys who never belonged on the Madden cover to begin with, like Peyton Hillis.
Calvin Johnson isn't mortal, so Detroit Lions fans shouldn't be worried about the Madden curse after learning the wide receiver indeed will grace the cover of "Madden NFL '13" It was announced Wednesday in Times Square that Johnson won a 52 percent-to-48 percent vote over Cam Newton for the honor when the game is released Aug. 28. (We guess Newton's campaign video didn't work.)

I've been thinking about buying the new Madden since the newest one I have is Madden 10. I wonder if there are any upgrades that make it worth buying. Has anyone heard of any new updates for the game?

The most recent one I have is Madden 07 and I honestly haven't been excited enough to buy a newer one since. Every year it sounds like they make some cosmetic improvements, apply a couple band-aid fixes to nuisance problems, and then take one step forward and two steps back as far as the overall gameplay.

I downloaded the Madden 12 demo last year and wasn't impressed, but I was told the actual game was much better. I was highly impressed with the NCAA Football 12 demo however.

If I owned a video game company, I wouldn't release a new game every year. I'd do a new game every 3 years or so and an annual roster update in between. Then I'd focus on making a first-class, glitch-free product. I could rotate, so I do a new NFL game in 2012, a new NCAA game in 2013, something else in 2014, etc.

Yeah, but if you were EA, you'd release a new game every year or you'd get fired by the shareholders. Because when you have the exclusive rights for something like the NFL ... you can put out a crappy game every year and almost as many people will buy it anyway. I guarantee you that if you gave upper management at EA the choice between putting out a crappy game that makes a ton of money, or a great game that makes half as much money, they'd take the crappy game every time.
Now, I'm sure the fans and the game designers think differently, but that's what happens when you have no competition. And I'm sure that if there was no exclusive-rights deal, EA would be getting off their asses to make Madden better IN A HURRY, or someone else would eat their lunch.

They redid the presentation this year, Gus Johnson and Collinsworthless are gone from the announcers booth and Jim Nantz and Phil Simms are in.
Here is a video that was released today, from 29:30 to about 32:40 is some Steelers/Bengals action, finally the Terrible Towel is in the game.

I'll stick with previous Gen Football games, thank you.
ESPN NFL2k5 is simply ahead of it's time.

the ncaa games are very very good.... the onlone dynasty is absolutly awesome, especially when u can get a few of ur friends and start one.. it is odd that over the yrs ncaa have been getting better and better but yet madden has not.. i think if madden would have such an in-depth online dynasty like ncaa has, then it would be a much bigger hit

It looks good, I like that the Terrible Towel is finally in it. I'm sure that there will be more tweaking by the time it comes out. I probably will buy it.

You should check out tecmobowl.org if you haven't already. You can get an emulator and play Tecmo on your PC. They even have updated rosters every year.
If you're really good at that kind of thing, you can even put the game on a computer chip and build a real NES cartridge.
