I know many will hate this, but we need to have some depth at QB with some experience.

The last question mark in free agency I had. Getting one or two of the vets behind Ben.

Wonder if this is a sign Leftwich will go to Indy like what has been reported.

Clearly the Rooneys are trying to win favor with the AARP.

This is the 37th consecutive one year contract for Charlie.

He does a lot of charity work in the area which makes his contract something similar.

I'm underwhelmed. :coffee:

I guess it was necessary...

Hopefully we draft or sign a young backup type QB so that next year it wont be necessary...

As a coach great. As a player, wasted roster spot. Hope he's just a camp arm...

He's brittle, but he's been a very effective backup when healthy. Not sure where all the Batch hate comes from.

He gets the ball out quick. Batch ain't gonna take any "Ben sacks". And there's nothing he hasn't seen. I'd rather have him than Dixon.

Sympathy because he filed for bankruptcy last year? Not crazy about this. Asst coach maybe. Hope we get lucky in the draft.

Anybody know where our cap level is now?

It really couldn't count more than maybe 1-1.2 million. Dixon made 1.2 as the top back-up last year.

Hes getting paid in Retirement money, which doesnt go against the cap :chuckle:

Charlie can play. He doesn't disappoint when he is forced to win a couple of games for us. Apart from the injury concerns, I don't have any issue with bringing him into camp. And as long as he outperforms Troy Smith, I don't have any issue with him as our veteran backup.

Yeah, I wonder when he starts doing ads for Depends or Centrum (with calcium).

Charlie can't play well any more...let's be honest here. He's a washed up vet who really has no arm left. I like the guy, but he's got little to nothing left and it has shown...

Yup, if Ben went down for the season like Peyton did last year....Steelers would be better off with Troy Smith than Charlie Batch. I hope that is how the depth chart reads come September anyways.

Frick a frack. I was hoping we had a better plan than this. Guess we better cross our fingers Ben doesn't get hurt...

15/22, 68% completions, 9.5 yard average in his last start. Not too shabby for someone who is washed up.

It was a good game.

Regardless, let's hope he is taking his centrum....with calcium.

He's a coach in everything but name. I wouldn't worry about the roster spot. He'll be on IR soon enough :)

With an Interception and a rating in the 70's?

Maybe we could get the doctor from the 6 milion dollar man to make one healthy QB out of the healthy parts of Batch and Leftwich?

Speaking of stats, how many games has he lost as a starter for Pittsburgh?

Charlie is here to come in for Ben if he goes down in a game, or on short notice. Whoever is the younger guy we keep as a #3 will be the starter if Ben's injury is for longer than part of a game or just one game. You want experience coming off the bench in a pinch. Again, I defer to the staff on this one...if that makes me a Kool aid drinker so be it...

Glad he's back, he provides some much needed veteran depth at QB.

Not surprised; it is a "loyalty" signing by the Rooneys. Doesn't really make any diference who the back up QB is; a long injury absence by Ben and the season is over anyway. Hard to value Batch's value as "player - coach," since Haley will install a new offense.

I completely disagree. With Batch, if Ben goes down in a game, or even maybe a couple days before a game, we can leave the same gameplan in place. After that, we adopt a simpler offensive plan and put in the #3 who will naturally be more durable, and probably a better runner, and we still have a good chance to win. If Ben is out for the year, well, yeah, we probably won't be going to the Super Bowl, but if he's out for a few weeks, even maybe 6 weeks, we shore up and try to go .500 or better and get into the playoffs and hopefully have our QB back.

MAYBE he won't make the 53 man roster anyway :chuckle:

Usually I trust the FO, so I hope this sign is for TC only :noidea:
