Exactly!! After Miller there really isnt much there. Good pickup for training camp and see if he makes the 53.

This has Haley written all over it. Not that I'm complaining...

He'll be our TE/lifeguard hybrid.

If he gets any serious minutes be prepared for some sort of stupid penalty every single game.

Leonard Pope was flagged 10 times in 2011 with 4 being for holding, 3 for false starts. Tied team lead in penalties. #steelers (http://www.steelersuniverse.com/#!/search/%23steelers)

Sounds like he'll fit right in.

For the pre-season and break glass in case of emergency.

Remember it's not like he's guaranteed a roster spot. He could be this year's John Gilmore.

In Pope's case he's more of an eligible tackle than a "Tight End."

Gotta be something that Haley likes about him. Seems like he likes to follow him around.

I'm pretty excited to see him in camp. He has some legitimate talent and knows Coach Haley well.

Good bye Kemo, hello Lenny.

Haley already "threw out the playbook." If all the penalties went away too then hell would really break loose.

I don't see him as a starter if he makes it. I just wonder if this is the end of Suanders?

I don't think so. If the team was going to release Saunders I feel like they would have done so immediately after his suspension came down. Wes Saunders has a lot of potential. I would have a problem with him being let go.

I'm glad to see something happen in FA. It wasn't a dire need, but it was a need that has been addressed. And I agree that this has Haley's fingerprints on it, so he's making some changes and bringing in one of his own guys. That's good...

Spaeth was a much better blocker, imo so kinda the opposite with Pope... More of a receiver, but at 6'8" Ben gets the "tall guy" everyone clamors for. Although his TD stats don't really scream redzone, jump ball kinda guy.(9 in 6 seasons)

I know, you'd expect a little more red zone production.

Ben in the huddle:

"Pope, run to the goal line turn around and put your hands up"

I actually thought Spaeth was more of a pass catching threat than a blocker...at least he was coming out of Minnesota.

And that's why we was underwhelming, imo. Everyone had high hopes for another Miller type player when he was drafted (winner of the '06 John Mackey Award), but the pass catching never amounted to much. That's why I think we let him go.

And I'd really like to see a veteran ILB brought in...at this point, I don't even care who. Right now our depth chart is showing the starters as Foote and Timmons, and their back-ups are Stevenson Sylvester and Mortty Ivy. That's just unacceptable.
