While seeking the counsel of his former boss and mentor, Bill Parcells, New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton has broached the idea of Parcells becoming the interim head coach during Payton's suspension for the 2012 season, according to several league sources.

Payton and Parcells have spoken numerous times, sources said, since NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced last Wednesday that the Saints coach was being suspended for the year because the league found that the team had engaged in a bounty program that included incentives to injure opposing players.

Can't say I blame him. His legacy as a HC and subsequent HoF chances were damaged enough by his tenure in Dallas. I don't think anyone with credible NFL head coaching credentials (and who are actually in their right mind) is going to go anywhere near that sinking ship.

I don't think they were damaged at all. However, if he were to take the Saints job, he would have to wait five more years for Hall of Fame induction, would would make him 76 years old then. I don't think it was worth it to him to go back to waiting another 5 years for HoF induction to coach one year, even with a QB like Brees and being a Super Bowl contender.

Listening to local radio sports show, one guy had the suggestion of Tony Dungy for 1 year. Actually not a bad idea.
