Redskins, Cowboys file grievance against NFL, NFLPA

The Cowboys and Redskins have yet to officially go nuclear. But the two teams have commenced the process of challenging the decision to strip $46 million in salary cap space from the two teams that treated the uncapped year as, well, an uncapped year.

Is there something I'm missing to the penalties brought upon both teams by the league? I mean, the contracts didn't carry over causing both Dalls and D.C. to be over the cap last year, right? It was only for the uncapped year? If that assessment is correct, I really think the teams have a chance to win this. It was an "uncapped" year, so how can the league drop penalties for it now?
When the Redskins and Cowboys agree on something, the world has turned upside down.

If they win the grievance, I'm assuming the Steelers lose the additional $1.6 million in cap space they were awarded as a result of the initial penalty(?)

James Harrison would be fined 1.6 million dollars.

You forgot to add the Patriots will get 2-4 additional draft picks.

I'm guessing there was an issue with having a lack of power because of the uncapped year and the "Wild West" free agency. With the new CBA and things under control, the league has the power to dish out their punishments.

How can you write rules into the new CBA to govern what has past? It seems to me the NFLPA should file collusion charges against the league, because this could not be any clearer that there was an off the table agreement during an uncapped year to institute a quasi cap.

Yeah, I mean ... it's weird being no the side of the Redskins or Cowboys, but it seems to me like you're exactly right. I know there were things in the old CBA that said if an uncapped year happened, you couldn't extend your own players with more than a 30% raise in the uncapped year, and things like that. But if there' no cap, there's no cap. The Redskins and cryboys just took advantage of that fact. And failed miserably anyway.

Can I file a grievance against the NFL for allowing Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones to own teams?

It is the oddest feeling to find myself in agreeance with both Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder...when for most of their times as the respective owners of their respective teams, I have despised how they've run their operations.

Were not all teams warned not to dump a ton of money in free agent contracts into that one year to avoid big money payouts once the CBA was figured out? Because last I checked, all teams were warned that if hey did indeed do this, there would be penalties to pay later on. Yes, the NFL does have to approve all contracts, and they couldn't tell the teams not to do it, just tell them that if that's how they want to sign the players that they will face penalties later on.
It doesn't matter if these player(s) are or are not on the teams anymore, the point is they were told they'd be penalized later if they did it, and they took their chances on what that punishment would be. They were probably thinking the loss of 6th or 7th round draft picks, and they were very wrong.
In the end, they had nobody to blame but themselves.
Those two knuckleheads thought they were the faces of the NFL instead of in a partnership with other owners.
