There was mention in the Hines Ward retirement thread that he deserves a statue. So my question here is, what should the statue be of?

I voted skipping into the endzone....but I wouldn't mind a statue of him knocking the shit out of Ed Reed either...maybe he should get two statues!

Then you would have to put an undeserving Raven in the statue too. :chuckle:

How about a holograph that morphs from the SB touchdown to the Ed Reed knockout.

Hines Ward, the WR with the LB's heart.

The Super Bowl image of Hines is the best pose but knocking out Rivers and Reed hold a special place in my heart.

Sorry, no statue. The Chief is enough.

Agreed.

And if they did decide to do a Steelers players statue, Ward would have to be behind Joe Greene, Terry Bradshaw, and Jack Lambert at a minimum.

i agree, I love Hines but there alot of Steelers that could deserve a statue, but I would like his #86 out of rotation, Steelers dont really retire #'s except #70 Stautner. Its funny sometimes seeing #'s like 82, 88, being worn by rookies sometimes because that number means something but the Steelers have like 20 in the HOF so they cant retire all #'s or there wouldnt be any numbers to wear. But certain #'s should not be worn again, 75, 12, 32, 58, 47, and I know there might be others but i would add 86 to that

I agree that it's impractical to try to retire numbers. But we should have a Ring of Honor. And we should think about a Monument Park like the Yankees have...except high tech. I like Count's idea of holographs, and each player in Monument Park has a number of life-size holographs showing iconic moments from his career.

I don't know how you could do that without it coming off as a slight to Stallworth and Swann? Both of which were at the very least the equal of Ward in Steelers history

It's funny because they've taken 36 out of the rotation in honor of the Bus. And in my opinion Jerome and Hines are on equal footing among all time Steeler greats. So I can see where the case can be made from that perspective.

Or maybe something simple and classy like Ohio State's "Buckeye Grove", where each of their 126 All-Americans has a tree planted with a plaque on it. That's a "green project", too.

We can't have statues all over the place outside the stadium.

I wonder if Randle El asked Stallworth "permission" to wear 82. Nobody has worn #88 since Terrence Mathis in 2002. I can't remember anyone since.

Emmanual Sanders wears #88 currently

Generally I'm not a fan of statues, but if they had to have one, I'd say it should either be a statue of him aiming a rocket launcher, or riding a great white shark as it busts out of the water. Kind of like this, but with Ward instead of Vladimir Putin.

If they do start to make statues I think Ward should be after a few other Steeler greats of the past.

Who? :chuckle: Forgot about Manny. Poor Swann, everybody wants that number. Such a legendary number on alot of NFL teams though.

A simple statue of him walking away from a skirmish smiling would be fine with me.

Skipping into the endzone.

Maybe the Steelers can have their own Hall of Fame and make some scale statues :chuckle:
