Nike Announces New Uniform Release Date

Finally, the moment we've all been waiting for.

Nike has announced that the new NFL uniforms will be revealed to the world in New York City on April 3rd.

Nike signed a deal to take over as the provider of all NFL uniforms and fan gear in October 2010, ending the NFL's previous partnership with Reebok. Nike will handle the NFL's uniforms and sideline apparel for the next five years.

While a lot of people seem to be expecting the worst from Nike, I don't expect too many drastic changes.

Teams with a deep history—such as the Packers, Bears, Cowboys and Raiders—aren't likely to change things up too much. The thing to keep in mind is that the franchises themselves have the final say on what the uniforms look like, not Nike.

There are rumors the Broncos are changing their uniforms, I wonder who else is?

This is a perfect chance for teams to change things about the uniforms if they want to.

I think most teams will stay with their current designs. The only thing the teams don't have control over is the cut of the jerseys. However the design, they have complete control over.

The difference between this contract and the contracts that colleges have is that a lot of schools give the maker of their jerseys (Nike, Under Armour, Reebok,Adidas, etc.) a lot of control over either the entire uniform design or a one-game "throwback" or special design jersey.

If Nike is designing uniforms, they should unveil them on April 1.

Not quite, FS76. I think that this would be more like what Goodeal wants to see for uniforms.

I'm sure a couple teams will go all "XFL' with tacky gaudy pieces of crap. I just hope the Steelers changes are so small that they are virtually undetectable.
