I am really not all that surprised. Once Miami was out of the picture, and I think trading Brandon Marshall put the nail in the coffin for the Dolphins in the Manning sweepstakes, I figured he would be a Bronco. Even when the 49ers jumped into the fray, I figured he would be a Bronco.
Here is my reasoning:
The 49ers are in the NFC and played the Giants in the NFC Championship Game last season. All reports were that he wanted to avoid going to the NFC because he didn't want to knock his brother out of the playoffs, unless they met in the Super Bowl.
The Titans play in the same division as the Colts. While I feel his is probably upset with Jim Isray because I truly think Peyton wanted to be a Colt his entire career, he didn't want to ruin his legacy in Indianapolis by playing for a division rival. I think if he would have done that, the fans opinion of him could have changed.
Manning is golf buddies with John Elway and I think he was comfortable with John Fox as the head coach. I think he felt that Fox would allow him a lot of the freedoms that he had in Indy by calling his own plays and he saw last season that Fox is willing to tailor his team's offense to the personnel that is on the field, like how he changed the offense when they put Tebow in at quarterback last season. He was most comfortable with the coaching staff and front office in Denver than he was with the Titans or 49ers.
And the fallout of the Manning Sweepstakes:
This really screws over the 49ers. Alex Smith currently has a contract offer on the table from the Miami Dolphins. He never planned on meeting with another team seeing how they were in negotiations with the 49ers on a 3-year deal. When news broke about the 49ers working out Manning, that's when Smith decided to meet with the Dolphins and was going to meet with the Seahawks before they signed Matt Flynn. In the end, the San Francisco 49ers could end up with former second round pick Colin Kaepernick as their starting QB this season. And from the 49er fans that I have talked to, he's a big drop off from Alex Smith.
In Miami, they were all in for Manning, and then they traded Brandon Marshall and I think that's what made Manning drop them from consideration. Then, they went after Flynn. They figured they were a lock for Flynn as a second option, and they tried to pressure him into signing there. I think he was a bit miffed at the treatment he received and left town without signing a contract and ended up signing s three year deal with the Seahawks. Also, there is still the chance that Alex Smith returns to the 49ers, which means the Dolphins end up with no quarterback.
In Tennessee, they made their top priority Peyton Manning. Before Manning was cut by the Colts, their main target was going to be Mario Williams. They couldn't sign any free agents until they knew what was going to happen with Manning because of the contract he would command. Now they lose out on the best pass rusher in free agency, and they don't get the quarterback either. However, they still have Matt Hasselbeck and last year's first round pick Jake Locker at the QB position, so they aren't going to take the possible huge hit that either the 49ers or Dolphins will take.
And in Denver, they have to figure out what to do about Tim Tebow. I don't think that Elway or Fox ever wanted him to start last season, but there ended up being no other choice. And then Tebow got them to an 8-8 record and a playoff win. But that playoff win showed to be a fluke when he went 9-26 against the worst defense in the AFC in the second round against the Patriots. Elway didn't want Tebow to be the starter in 2012, and I think Fox agreed. There are going to be people out there that say they should move Tebow to an H-Back or TE position....but they don't want the controversy that might erupt of Tebow has to come into a game for an injured Manning and wins the game for the Broncos. There are already Bronco fans saying that they will root against the Broncos this season for going after Manning. So they will try to trade Tebow, and if they can't find someone to take him, I think they'll just cut him.

Only first year, $18 million fully guaranteed for Manning
Peyton Manning and the Broncos will sign a contract that will mark a new era for both.
The contract is for five years and $96 million with the first year payout of $18 million fully guaranteed, according to an NFL source.
When Manning signs his five-year, $90 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts on July 31, 2011, he would up with a first-year payout of $26.4 million. That guarantee came in handy as Manning didn't take a snap in 2011 because of a neck injury.
It appears Manning made some concession in his deal with the Broncos as his first-year guarantee was lowered 32 percent compared to his previous deal with the Colts.

Ultimately I'm happy for Peyton and hope to see him be successful. Except against Pittsburgh I want him to throw 7 INTs. (4 Pick 6's)

I just read an interesting take: That Denver needed Manning to get the Tebow albatross from around their neck. That they know he's not a good QB but his dumb fans would be furious if they yank him for a guy who can actually throw a football and read a defense. Manning was the one guy they could be safe replacing him with.
