One of my favorite Steelers, but like the others, it is time to go in a new direction.

Best FA pickup the Steelers have ever had. In his day, Potsie was a great ILB.

it just keeps coming....

and I guess that means Foote stays. Get Dan Connor!

Thanks for everything Potsie. Even in a limited role last year your value was never lost

Many will think the Steelers will not have leadership in 2012!

Wow. Just wow. One of my all time favorites. Looks like I have two new Jerseys to buy since I have to retire my Ward, and my son's Farrior.

It's amazing how much different this team is goin to be. I feel like to of the great leaders are now gone. It's like part of the team's identity is lost.

#ravens did something last year very similar to what #steelers are doing now by cutting vets. Worked out quite well for them.

I don't think that's true.

On offense you have Ben, Pouncey, I think Cotchery will be back, I think Brown is going to step up in a leadership roll he definitely leads by example.

On defense you have Polamalu, Clark, Ike, Woodley, Harrison, Keisel, and Timmons

It's not like the team is going to be filled with rookie players.

This thought has been in the back of my head since the purge of vets started. We'll see how this works out.

Seriously though, sorry about Farrior. But that's the way it goes.

And we need OG.

And we need DL.

And we need to address OT.

This is truly an end of an era with those 3 being cut: Smith, Ward, Farrior. They were the leaders of 2 Super Bowl champions and 3 AFC champs and numerous division titles. I thought 2010 was truly their last chance at glory. Thanks Potsie for your great leadership.

Man my Super Bowl XL team set (Danbury Mint) had 10 Steelers on it, now only 3 remain (7 no longer on team), Ben, Troy, and Hampton. Like others Farrior will be missed. He did alot of the dirty work on the inside solid career.

Thanks for a great career, Farrior. A lot of good players getting the axe. Farrior,Ward and Smith are iconic Steelers, sad to see them go at the same time.

I wonder if they might re-sing one or two of the guys they recently cut, if they don't find suitable replacements. These guys would probably accept vet minimum contracts. I don't think the Steelers can adequately replace all these players, especially someone like Farrior in one off season.

An amazing career from Potsie and we in Steeler nation thank you for all you did. Sometimes it's just time to move on and rebuild and the Steelers want young, def. on defense. Will only work out to our advantage, but no one will take their places. Black N gold forever.

as far as leadership, i agree they can't be replaced this offseason but on the field i'd say they aren't going to be that hard to replace. haven't seen smith do much in years, ward riding pine most of the year, kemo was a penalty machine and not much better than a turnstile. only replacement that's difficult is farrior. maybe 1st round pick on a new ILB?

Thanks James for all of the great years.

As far as his replacement goes, we would've already had him on the roster if we had drafted Sean Lee in 2010 instead of taking Worilds in the 2nd.

Most of them really weren't playing much last year anyway, except Farrior. And I think the drop-off from him to Foote as a starter will be minimal, which is why we re-signed Foote a couple years ago. More than anything, this whole sequence is sad on an emotional level. They really left NO DOUBT that they are not dicking around and spreading the transition out over two or three years; this is the year they cut the cord.

As far as leadership goes, they have Ben, Troy, Harrison, Ike, Heath, Clark ... seems like they are expressing their confidence that those guys are established enough to take that on.

I don't think Hampton has to worry, though. This year and maybe next. We'd really be over a barrel without him.

My guess is that if Big Snack shows up in Latrobe soggy around the mid-section, he's not gonna make the cut this year.
