So far so good when it comes to Casey Hampton and the knee injury that knocked the mammoth nose tackle out of the Steelers’ 29-23 loss to Denver last Sunday.

Hampton is not scheduled to undergo surgery in the near future, which means the 11th-year veteran will try to work his way back from an ACL injury with a combination of rest and treatment.

That could change, but avoiding surgery could be the key to Hampton returning to the Steelers in 2012............

This is good. Even if we address Nose in the first couple rounds of the draft, I don't want to put my run-stuffing hopes & dreams in Steve McClendon and a rookie. Hampton is really a one down player at this point in his career; and doesn't demand double teams like he used to - but he still plays the run at a high level.

cool, that means he can come back next year at a reduced salary. We still need a new early draft NT, but I would feel uneasy with two inexperienced NTs and McLendon

My concern would be that he'd be sitting on his fat ass even more than usual while he "rehabs" his knee, and would be in even worse shape than a couple years ago.

He's done to me. His knees can't handle the weight and his body is worn down. That's what happens when you're a NT in the AFC north. I say we sign another nT and draft a rookie.

Are there some good NT's in the 2012 draft ? I hope one can fall to us.

Can someone explain to me how you come back from a torn ACL without surgery? Or does this mean it's not completely torn?

I just hope that he gets better very soon.

Either it is not completely torn or "big snack" is taking the Hines Ward approach to his ligaments - "we don't need no stinkin anterior cruciate ligaments!"

Ahh, I found this. Maybe he lucked out:

That is good news. However, He will have to limit his off season workouts in order to heal properly. So, cut back on the running Casey. Maybe just a couple miles a day?

See .... I typed a funny. ;)

Poe seems to be the general consensus top ranked Nose Tackle coming out this year. He's a little taller than your ideal Nose Tackle, but will demand a double team on 1st & 2nd downs which we is something we've been missing with Hampton in the middle the last couple of years.
