You would think after 15+ years steeler fans would be able to spell Hines...

I'd say Farrior and Smith should be out and we bring in the fresher guys. Keep the others on the list, even Hines (out of love)!!!

Starks may be back with the right contract. Hampton may be done. Farrior, Smith, Hines are probably all gone. Sadly.

i dont blame you, i eat my feelings as well

ill go with the consensus. I think farrior, smith, and hines are gone as well. I think Hampton will stay because of Hoke's potentially season ending injury and really we have no one else at nose. Hood and McClendon have played bits of snaps there but they definitely arent big enough to play full time

I would love for Hines to come back, but i just cant see it hes like are #5 WR he didnt even get many plays in a critical playoff game just sat on bench or stood on sideline with coat on

I've said this for 2 years, Hampton, Farrier, Foote, Smith all need to be evaluated better because after this year they can't all be back. We need to get younger on Defense. We are really close. We have Timmons, Woodley, Heyward, Hood, and a good young base.

Arians ???

01-08-2012, 08:15 PM
i wish arians would go away. too many "ugh" calls in my opinion. offense always fizzles out of every game at some point and in today's nfl you need to be more consistent on offense. much blame can go to the oline and injuries but i don't see us having an elite offense as long as arians runs the show.

Hines and Aaron Smith probably gone. We have younger players who have developed into their roles. Nothing but love for both those guys.
"Big Juicy" Kemoeatu... he needs replaced. He doesn't produce enough to justify the penalties.
"MeMo" Moore... Sorry dude, but Redman's better.
Ryan Mundy needs to go. Time to promote D.C. Shoes to the post of backup safety.

And please, God... we've had enough of Arians. His bubble-screens are a disaster.

Depends on if Ben starts pouting again.

The Rooney's need to step in and take care of this.

Ryan Mundy?? I. Don't. Think. So.

And yes, I think it's time for Ariens to go. I expected a gamed plan tonight that revolved around what Ben was capable of this week. Not one based on what he could have done a month ago.

I am not about to bash any players tonight. I just spent the last 30 minutes on twitter on the SU account thanking each and every player that tweeted thanks to all the fans for all the support this year and apologized for letting us down. We are 12-5 this year despite tons of injuries and horrible officiating. We survived Harrison's supension and Ben...he gave his body...again.

I wouldn't be suprised to see any of these names let go (or retire) before the first game:

Charlie Batch
Larry Foote
James Farrior
Bryant McFadden
Aaron Smith
Hines Ward
Daniel Sepulveda
Dick Lebeau

We have huge talent on both sides of the ball, but we rarely beat teams convincingly. We need a new outlook on offense. We have to take better advantage of the weapons we have. The D is always the D, BUT I think LeBeau has gotten predictable (except the game against NE...a masterpiece game plan that was never again utilized again all season). It might be time for him to pass the baton....and can we please get a real fullback?

steelreserve
01-09-2012, 02:56 AM
I'd say Smith is definitely gone due to age and injury. Ward might come back, if only because I think Cotchery had a decent enough year that he isn't interested in being the #4 receiver and goes to some other team that pays him $2-3M and a chance to be the #2 guy. Maybe Ward comes back at a reduced rate then. Sepulveda gone, Suisham gone, Hoke maybe not of his own will ... I think Farrior is a prime candidate to come back and roll the dice and then have an unlucky injury that forces him into retirement next year. Batch is probably gone, I hope. Might as well get rid of Dixon too. Johnson is pretty useless; I agree with the other people who said we ought to just get a real FB.

?? Johnson was targeted 14 times this year, and caught 12 balls. How is that "stone-hands?" Seems to me, that is a very good set of hands, with a 86% reception rate.

As far as FB's,
Patriots don't have one one,
Ravens don't have one
Broncos don't have one (theirs is listed as both FB/LB, splitting duties, as it were, as such, he doesn't qualify as a "real fullback" either.
49'ers have one, but he's only suited for 4 games. So for all intents and purposes, count the 49'ers as not having one.

That means half of the teams left in the playoffs DONT have FB's on their roster (or do, but only played them 4 games).

If you look at the top teams in average rushing yards per game,
1. Panthers FB - No
2. Vikings FB - Yes
3. Eagles FB - No
4. Saints FB - Yes
4. Bills FB Yes
6. Broncos FB - No (again, not a pure FB like's being asked for here).
7 Texans FB - Yes
8. Raiders FB - Yes
9. Cowboys FB - No
10. Bears FB - Yes
11. Steelers FB - NO
12. Lions FB - Yes
13. Chargers FB - No
14. Ravens FB - No
15. Dolphins FB - No
16. Arizona FB - No

That means of the top half of all running teams (effective in the run), It's virtually split down the middle. Nine do not have FB's, seven have FB's. The top four go No, Yes, No, Yes (2x).

I doubt FB's are going to help us win more games. After all, can they cover in the last 5 minutes of a game?

OH, how could I forget, of course, GB has John Kuhn, the greatest football player to make the Hall of Fame while still playing. Now HE could play fullback, then cover as a CB AND FS at the same time, and even block a guy at the same time he was running with the football. :chuckle:

Enter Keith Butler, I know this team and organization is so rich in tradition, but new faces need to roll in and kick them in the ass, it may or may not work, but I think time for change is needed. Being that said, I think Coach Dad gives it another season and then retires.

Kemo needs to be gone, David Johnson ....... idk. What about False Start Willie Colon? Whos gonna play Guard or Tackle next year ?

The Ravens have Vonta Leach an All-Pro FB.

I agree with Johnson he ain't as bad as some people make him out to be, sure we can upgrade, but he is still young and can get better.

AMEN to that. :drink:

Considering all of the key injuries this team faced, and especially down the stretch and into yesterday's playoff game, I can't be upset with these guys and pick and choose who I think should be given the boot. That's up to the FO and the coaching staff - that's why they are in the positions they are in.

As for Arians - I'd love him to stay for another 10 years. I had no problem with his game plan yesterday and for the majority of the season to be quite honest. I think the Steelers FO will leave it up to him if he decides to stay another year or two or retire.

Nope, Vonta Leach is a HB that's double timing as a FB in their system, according to their roster. The call was for a FB specialist. Hence, the Ravens do not count as having a FB. He's had 15 receptions and 12 rushes. That's more times than Johnson was even targeted, and Johnson has no rushes. So if Johnson is still considered a cross-over FB and not a true FB, neither is Vonta Leach.
