If it was left up to Ryan Clark, he would've chosen to play in Denver despite risks that still exist from having the sickle-cell trait that caused him to lose 30 pounds, his gall bladder and spleen following a game there in 2007.

"I would've been out here practicing with the No. 1 defense right now," Clark said. "I discussed it with my family, prayed about it, had others pray for me. It is what I wanted to do."

Coach Mike Tomlin made the decision for Clark on Monday, informing the 10-year veteran that he wasn't going to allow him to play against the Broncos.

"I appreciate him being man enough ... to understand the severity of the situation, and what could be," Clark said. "There wasn't a fight. Does he look like a man that would change his mind?"

Clark said he was cleared by doctors to play in Denver.

"We have ourselves to blame for this," strong safety Troy Polamalu of the Steelers not securing home-field advantage for the playoffs.
