This means no Ryan Clark. That's a big loss for us combined with the injuries we sustained.

Also losing Cortez Allen really sucks. This means we'll have to deal with mcFadden.

As to the match up next week. All the pressure's on the Steelers. The Broncos are playing with house money, and if they keep it close they'll be very dangerous.

We need to deliver a quick knock out ( which I believe we're capable of) otherwise we could easily lose this one.

It's a shame the NFL doesn't award home games based on best record over divsion winners as the NBA and NHL do. I don't just say this because the Steelers are being screwed by the system, I've also said this past years when the pathetic Seahawks hosted the Saints, and the Colts had to go to the 8-8 Chargers
a few years earliar.

Oh well it's what we get for losing that home game to the Ravens.

Watch him look all-world against the Steelers next week.

Running quarterbacks always seem so frustrating for us.

But Tebow has been ice cold and turnover prone. Good recipe.

Broncos' pass rush scares the heck out of me. Strong rushers + road game has equaled bad news for us this season.

What DAY and TIME ?

That will not be decided until after the Giants/Cowboys game.

Anyway, I'm more concerned about this matchup because the Steelers have had problems stopping the run, and that's what the Broncos do best. I'm not worried at all about Tebow having to throw the football, because he totally sucks at it.

How much will not having Clark affect the secondary next week?
Im not even sure we have seen him replaced this season, Will Allen ? Mundy ? Cromartie Smith. You obviously need Troy in the box more often than not.

Clark is instrumental in stopping long runs. LeBeau has said that himself. And we're completely comfortable with having Clark stay as the single high safety in coverage and let Troy bounce around at the line. Also the ability to have him and Troy swap safety spots at times. Lot of confidence/trust and knowledge of the playbook.

If Clark doesn't play, Mundy will get the start.

As far as I know, the altitude shouldn't affect Clark since he had his spleen removed. He made the trip in '09 when the Steelers were here last and sat on the sidelines to see if it would affect him and it didn't, IIRC.

The Broncos might be 8-8 and on a losing streak, but their strengths (pass rush, running the ball) are our weaknesses. It's not a matchup I'm 110% thrilled with, but it's a winnable game.

I think I read that he went to Denver last time, and passed all the tests. But personally, I wouldn't take the chance with his life.

I just don't trust "tests". My stepdad passed a stress test right before Thanksgiving and ended up have a 5 way bypass this week. My dad passed a stress test and had a massive heart attack less than a week later. So much for "tests".

Anyone know what Allen's injury is? Tomlin said that aside from Mendenhall, the other injuries were relatively minor. Looked like his shouler popped out of place.

Allen really hadn't been playing much on defense lately since he hadn't faced a team with a lot of weapons at WR and had to dip into our dime packages. If he's out, it's a loss on special teams, but McFadden has done well there. And I think he'll be fine if he has to take a few snaps on defense to. He really isn't that bad, not nearly as much as some make him out to be.

UPDATE 10:23 p.m. ET: The Steelers have forwarded to PFT the specific answer provided after the game by coach Mike Tomlin as to Clark’s status. “We’re going to meet with the doctors at some point tomorrow or Tuesday,” Tomlin said. “It’s a discussion. Last time we went we exercised some precaution. We choose not to play him, but we worked him out extensively to see how he responded to that. We gathered information and data in that regard. Now we get an opportunity to utilize that. Now we will put some heads together. When I am talking about heads I am talking about medical experts, not myself. We’ll see what the medical experts have to say and then we’ll go from there.”

I just spent some time perusing a Broncos Forum. Holy Mother of God! It's chock-full of Bible thumpers and lunatics! They are GLAD they are playing the Steelers, as they "match up well" against Pittsburgh. I'd like to know how a QB who went 6 for 22 for 60 yards matches up well with the NFL's (ok, this is hard for me to say) #1 overall defense in 2011 (and #1 against the pass). And while McGahee is still a great RB, he will be up against the #8 defense against the run.

Seriously.......I'd start Batch and beginning planning a trip to M&T Bank or Gillette Stadium.

I've heard of several people where I work who are Broncos season ticket holders that are selling their tickets because they expect a blowout in our favor and won't even bother to go because of it. From what I've experienced this week so far, there's not a lot of confidence with Broncos fans that they're going to win.

Tebow will go 6 for 18 with 2 interceptions and 28 yards, he will have 38 yards rushing...all in the first half, and then...we should be ready for their back up cause that is what is coming in the second half when we are already up by 36 points.

Yes, We will have a 13-0 lead all game, going into the 4th. They will score a TD with about 6 minutes to play, we'll get a 3 and out on the next possession and the last 2 minutes will be Tebow driving down the field with all of steeler nation having heart palpitations or chewing their nails off.

I hate the thought tube517, but I've watched way too many of the type of game you are describing, way too many ! And I can see this game being one of them also. I sure hope it's a blow-out like so many on this board think it will be, sure would make it easier on the heart !! and fingernails !

Sums it up pretty well.

Quick side note.

Aaron Smith said his spinal fusion was a success and that he could've played today had he not been put on IR.

This makes me feel bad.

This makes me feel bad.

I'm just happy the surgery was a success. Neck/spine issues are nothing to sneeze at.

So, is there anything like an IR penalty to get a guy back on your squad, or is IR like a season death sentence?

Once you're put on it, you're done for the year.

There's no way I want him playing again. Sit down Aaron, you've had too many injuries of late and who knows if the next one will be life changing. Take care of your family and especially, your son who's recovering from cancer. Enjoy the future.

I'm sure he will consider all the possibilities before making his decision and make the right choice for himself and his family, whatever that may be. I'm guessing that he will retire. But if he comes back you can bet the prognosis is favorable and the risk low.

Since Aaron Smith is on IR, there's obviously no decision for him to make.

As to the nailbiting.....I'm going to have to agree with that scenario.
