View Full Version : I hope Suisham gets cut tomorrow

Roll the dice for the playoffs. With as poor as the Steelers offense is, they can't play Russian Rullette with FG's.

This offense reminds me of the Kordell Stewart days. Just hope for FG's and no turnovers.

I don't care if it inside of a dome, Suisham chokes way too many times and he probably misses that kick.

Worst kicker in football.

No matter how calm you try to be, you can't change the facts that he is terrible.

What's the excuse going to be when he misses with no wind.....

And yes, I maintain that the Ben/Arians combination must end.

He was also kicking into the wind, unlike Suisham.

I'm not saying the Steelers' kicker is the answer, all I'm saying is that he was kicking into the wind from 40+ yards out. I would have been really impressed had he made it. I guess I should have clarified earlier.

Ben and Bruce Arians need a divorce.

I have no idea why the Steelers didn't make a play for David Akers when the Eagles decided to part ways with him?

Oh well, the Steelers knew who he was ( Suisham) and decided not to bother trying to improve upon him when they had the chance. Therefore you can't use him as an excuse if you lose a game because of a missed kick.

But it is frustrating because you can easily imagine that the Steelers would have won the game against the Ravens in Pittsbugh if they had signed Akers, and in so doing, probably held the AFC's 1 seed. :frusty:

How much does Akers make? If it's anything close to $4 million, then there's your answer. No kicker is worth that much, and if the Steelers ever paid a kicker that much, I'd wonder if they've lost their minds.

Weird...

He's missed quite a few this season, and even more damning is the obvious lack of confidence Tomlin has in him. Which means often when the Steelers are in field goal range for a good kicker they don't even try, because Tomlin just feels he'll be giving away field position instead of possibly scoring.

Suisham made 800K this season, with a $1.137 million cap hit. Akers will make $2.9 million this season between salary and signing bonus, and has a $1.8 million cap hit. Doable, but the Steelers wouldn't pay Jeff Reed $3 million, so they weren't going to give Akers that much.

I'm all for trying to find someone better in the offseason shuffle, but at this point in the season, the team is pretty much the team. I don't really see us making any significant moves except at the end of the roster to replace someone who was injured (which unfortunately it looks like there is a hell of a lot to think about there).

I agree the Suisham sucks and needs replaced, after the season. Who is available to sign? Jeff Reed? The guy who was replaced by Shuisham? If we did cut him & signed someone else that missed a few FG's next week in Denver and we lost.....would you be starting a thread about how dumb it was to cut your kicker the week before the playoffs?

Suishi isn't good, but cutting your kicker at this point in the season is just retarded. Keep him through the playoffs because nobody better is available, or the Steelers would have already replaced him. But hopefully we can find a long-term answer to the position this offseason, because I knew Suishi wasn't going to be more than a stopgap when we signed him last year.

I'm not impressed with Sushi either. We are stuck with him for now though so we'll have to make the best of it. Let's just hope our offense in the playoffs do their jobs and score TD's when in the red zone...... and if not in the red zone, let's hope we are at least around the 25 yrd line when trying the FG....anything more than 30yrds out I'll be holding my breath !!

Oh, God - tons of people would go apeshit if the Steelers "wasted" a draft pick on a kicker.

:chuckle: Yeah, I'm sure people would, but how often do sixth and seventh round picks last for the Steelers? I mean, if most people are cut, why not draft a punter and kicker who could possibly last for years.

Why do they need a punter when Kapinos has shown he is more than capable of doing the job?

Its just a thought, Kapinos might not be coming back next year, but we'll find out what happens in the near future.

If the Steelers are smart, they will bring him back and let Sepulveda go to FA. They only signed Sep to a 1-year deal for a reason.

2nd worst field goal percentage among FULL TIME kickers in the NFL. Yeah...i'd say he sucks.

Yeah, I agree its time to let Sep go. If it wasn't only for the injuries, I always liked him.

Keep in mind that it's tough to kick at Heinz Field so being one the road helps at least one guy. He's 11/14 on the road and 5/6 from 40+, his only miss being from 48 at Candlestick.

That's something we'll have to keep in mind. Good stat to know.

Sigh I have to agree. Sushi has been a voyager for a reason because not many teams wanted this kid because he is inconsistant. Yes he had a hell of a season last year with us, but it's a gamble every game with him wondering if he is going to nail every kick or miss easy ones. I don't think he is worth the gamble anymore, but at the same time are the Steelers willing to pay big money on a kicker?

Based upon the struggles they have in the redzone and how the end result of their games are very close, they need to invest in a better kicker.

Excellent point! Maybe we are a team that would be wise to invest in a high end kicker, even if it means committing 3-4 million to the position. You give this team a kicker the quality of Josh Scobee this season and I have no doubt we beat the Ravens in our most recent game with them and we're the AFC's 1 seed today.

When you consider the kicks Tomlin wont even try with Suisham, and how that changes game situations later in the game it's amazing we won as often as we have. With our playing style an elite kicker would help this team a lot.

I've always like Josh Scobee, but Jacksonville and Pittsburgh are two different places to kick

I am okay if we cut him after the playoffs, but we should probably keep him until then. IMHO.

and I agree completely, the only problem is I don't see the Steelers doing that. They never were big on spending big time money on kickers sadly. Draft one in the 4th or later round maybe, but never give 4 mil + a year to a proven kicker.
