Police say Vick not involved in shooting; suspect identified

NFL.com Wire Reports

Police said Tuesday that they have identified the person responsible for the June 25 shooting outside a Virginia Beach, Va., nightclub and exonerated Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

"There are no other suspects in this case, including Michael Vick," the police said in a statement, according to the newspaper.

Police also said that they can't charge the shooter, whom they didn't identify, because the victim and some witnesses aren't being cooperative. According to Vick's attorney, Larry Woodward, the victim is Quanis Phillips, a co-defendant in the dogfighting case that landed the quarterback in federal prison.

Vick has said he had nothing to do with the shooting, which occured after his 30th birthday party at the Guadalajara nightclub. He also said he reported the incident to the Eagles and to the NFL.

The Eagles released a statement Saturday refuting an Associated Press report that they were strongly considering releasing Vick, their backup quarterback, because of the shooting.

Woodward told The AP last Tuesday that Vick left the establishment at least 10 minutes, and perhaps as many as 20 minutes, before the shooting took place. But Allen Fabijan, spokesman for the nightclub, said the next day that he had video that contradicted Woodward's timeline.

The time-stamped footage from a surveillance camera outside the club's entrance shows a car with Vick inside leaving at 2:07 a.m. -- about 3 minutes before the shooting one block away.

The waiting car with Vick inside pulled away at about 2:07 a.m., heading in the direction of the eventual shooting. Numerous people were visible lingering in front of the club for several minutes until, at 2:10:55, they appear to be startled, with some ducking for cover.

Fabijan said police had asked him not to release the video, but he allowed The AP to view the grainy footage.

Vick's face isn't discernible; a man whom Fabijan said is Vick appears moving toward a parked car at 2:04 a.m. A crowd quickly gathered, and Fabijan said Vick accommodated fans trying to get an autograph, to pose for a photo or to shake hands -- so much so that a club security guard eventually moved in to disperse the crowd.

Vick had to be restrained in confrontation before shooting

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 7, 2010 6:01 PM ET

Just minutes before someone was shot outside Eagles quarterback Michael Vick's birthday party, Vick got into a confrontation and had to be restrained by friends and placed inside a limousine that took him away, the Commonwealth's Attorney in Virginia Beach said today.

Vick is not a suspect in the shooting, but Commonwealth's Attorney Harvey L. Bryant addressed Vick's actions before the shooting when he discussed the case today.

"There were some confrontations between individuals and between groups and Michael Vick was involved in one of those confrontations," Bryant said, per WAVY. "[It was] a confrontation that involved shouting, words passing, some bumping."

Bryant went on to say that friends restrained Vick and put him in a limo, but that Vick then got back out to again confront someone. Bryant would not identify the person Vick was confronting.

"In terms of just using good judgment, at one point, he got in the limousine, and should have left at that point," Bryant said of Vick. "He got out of the limousine, and with the help of several friends, he was returned to to the limousine and left."

So basically Vick's group of friends all dummy up when there's a shooting and see nothing. Yeah we have a name for those sort of friends, they're called thugs. I've never been witness to a shooting and i have very few friends that have been that I know of either. But i'll tell you this, with normal non thug people, when you see a shooting you tell the authorites anything you know and relay anything you might have witnessed.

Bottom line you can take Vick out of the hood but you can't take the hood out of Vick.

If Vick was a white SB-winning QB this would be 24/7 news.
