The NFL offseason is arguably one of the craziest times during the year as the front offices for all 32 franchises are actively scrambling to make transactions in order to put their teams in the best possible situation for the upcoming season.
Accompanying all the wheeling and dealing are hundreds of rumors that leak out every day. Many see it as sports' form of the gossip column.
More often that not, most of these rumors either prove to be false or fade away as we wake up to reality. Once again, we witnessed such as several trades and draft selections that were reported or predicted to occur simply didn't materialize.
Note: The slides are in no specific order.

Osi Umenyiora On The Trading Block?
According to reports from ESPN's Chris Mortensen as well as the National Football Post, the New York Giants were shopping Osi Umenyiora.
Many believed that this would especially be the case if they drafted South Florida DE Jason Pierre-Paul. However, even though they did, it appears as if Umenyiora is staying put.
In my mind, it was a smart move to keep him on the roster. The Giants, themselves, proved that having an effective rotation of pass rushers is an integral key to success.

Teams Taking a T.O. On Terrell Owens
Terrell Owens, arguably one of the Top 10 greatest receivers of all time, was released by the Buffalo Bills shortly after the season ended.
Since then, dozens of teams have displayed somewhat interest in the 6-time Pro Bowler. Unfortunately for him, nothing serious has emerged and he remains unemployed.

Raiders Will Draft Another Workout Warrior In The 1st Round
The Raiders owner Al Davis surely has an unorthodox method of drafting players, to say the least.
Over the entire past decade, the only 1st round selection that have actually proved to be a wise decision is CB Nnamdi Asomugha ('03).
Even though Robert Gallery and Sebastian Janikowski have played well, I can't, in any way, justify selecting a guard and kicker in the 1st round. Especially not when the guard was drafted to be a tackle with the 2nd overall pick in the draft.
Based on this trend, most mock drafts had the Raiders drafting a workout warrior, such as OT Bruce Campbell, in the 1st round. To our surprise, the Raiders, instead, selected Alabama ILB Rolando McClain. While I still do disagree with the choice, it is a much better ones made in recent history.

Albert Haynesworth: $100 Million Mistake
Albert Haynesworth is reportedly unhappy with his role in the Redskins' newly implemented 3-4 defensive scheme in which he would have to play nose tackle. Of course, he didn't complain when he accepted a $21 million bonus.
Now, after coaches and players all around the league have commented on the situation, the two sides are in a very tricky situation.
Their have been a few reports of teams trying to trade for him, but nothing is imminent primarily because nobody wants to take on the hefty $100 million contract he signed last offseason.
At this point, unless the team releases him, it seems like this is a story that could drag on for a while.

Oshiomogho Atogwe Trade/Free Agency Sweepstakes
Oshiomogho Atogwe was one of the more intriguing trade options in the league. He's a solid all-around free safety, and he drew interest from several teams.
Then, when the Rams failed to meet the signing deadline, Atogwe became a free agent and met with numerous teams. Ultimately, though, the Rams signed him to a 5-year deal.

Jimmy Clausen Will Be A Top 10 Pick
Many so-called "draft experts", including ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. had Jimmy Clausen projected as a sure-fire Top 10 selection. They continued to rave on and on about how he was a pro-style QB who had an impressive senior season with 28 TD and only 4 INT.
Apparently, front offices didn't seem to care as he took an incredible free-fall to the Carolina Panthers at the 48th overall pick.

Teams Interested In Biggest Bust Ever; But...
After the Oakland Raiders traded for QB Jason Campbell, it was a near guarantee that their former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell would no longer be a part of the organization.
A while after his release was made official, several teams appeared to show interest, including the New York Jets.
Nothing serious has developed, and it doesn't seem like anything will. According to reports, JaMarcus Russell has been arrested for possession of coedine.

Could The Steelers Really Trade Big Ben?
Just a week prior to the draft, the Steelers had a major dilema with two of their best players in WR Santonio Holmes and QB Ben Roethlisberger.
After the team traded Holmes for a mere 5th round pick, many expected the same to be Roethlisberger's fate, especially after team officials announced that they would be open to trades.
However, as of today, Roethlisberger is still a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Seahawks Pursuit Of Big-Time Offense
When Pete Carroll agreed to be the Seattle Seahawks' new Head Coach, many realized that he would want to have his imprint on the roster.
The Seahawks were aggresssively trying to pursue Brandon Marshall and to some extent Donovan McNabb. Their efforts, however, came to no avail.
The most recent rumor involves current Buffalo Bills RB Marshawn Lynch. After releasing Lendale White, the Seahawks are looking to add a physical brusing type of back to their already crowded backfield.

Darren Sharper To Leave New Orleans?
Heading into the offseason, the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints had numerous players set to be a free agent with one of them being Defensive Player of the Year candidate FS Darren Sharper.
After contract negotiations quieted down, many speculated that he may actually be on his way out of the Big Easy. Despite discussion with several teams, Sharper eventually decided to return for less money.
