View Full Version : Browns didn't see the McCoy hit?

Was going through the Steelers game and obviously came across the McCoy hit.

Lots of back and forth being said from the Browns, league/NFLPA looking into the hit. It's a bit of a mess right now.

It's messier now.

Yesterday, this is what Mike Holmgren said in his presser.

"When the injury took place on the field, at that time the question came up did the doctors see the impact of the play and they did not and our trainers did not. They were all working, as is typical in a game. They were working on other injured players either in the bench area or behind players so they did not see the play."

"They had not seen the play..."

"But, they didn't see it..."

In Holmgren's words this is how the trainers heard of the hit.

"They were working on other injured players either in the bench area or behind players so they did not see the play. Then they heard a crowd reaction, someone said Colt's down..."

Holmgren himself acknowledges the fact that if you just look at the hit, you know there's a good chance he had a serious head injury.

"Other than the fact you look at the hit and think something must have happened..."

So main point here is that the trainers didn't see the hit and didn't go through the battery of tests to make sure he didn't show signs of a concussion.

Let's check out the play through pictures courtesy of NFL Rewind.

Look at all the non-players on the Browns sideline. I count 14 in that shot alone. Obviously, a lot of them are coaches but you don't think any of them are medical personnel? Or a coach who saw the hit and figured it'd be wise to point it out?

This is the person I want to focus on. He is circled at the top of your screen.

That appears to be head trainer Joe Sheenan.

Here is another shot of Sheenan, seeming to be looking right at the play.

You might be saying, well Holmgren metioned that Alex Smith was also injured on the play and trainers went over there to help him. Maybe Sheenan went over to help Smith.

Nope. Here is a picture of him being one of the first to McCoy on the field. You can tell for sure it is the same person because he is holding the towel you see in the other pictures.

And here is Sheenan on the sideline with McCoy. Working on his hand. Not checking for a concussion.

------------

Let's sum up.

1. It's clear that at least not all the trainers were on the sidelines attending to other players.

2. Their head trainer saw it.

3. He went to help McCoy on the field and on the sideline.

4. The Browns have repeatedly lied throughout this event. From Shurmer saying he was tested for a concussion to Holmgren contradicting that and saying he was not to what Holmgren said yesterday.

Based on DeMaurice Smith's overall incompetence during the lockout, I imagine they won't pick up on this. Which, at the risk of sounding arrogant, is sad that a random person behind a computer will produce a more detailed report and more accurate information than what they will.

I hope Cleveland pays for this.

Oh, there's no doubt they lied through their teeth. The sad thing is, THIS will be buried (like the Pats cheating) and the diversion that is created to keep attention off it will be Harrison's mostly clean, slightly illegal hit and totally fucking bogus suspension.

NFLPA has a big chance to step up and see what happened.

Let's hope they do.

But they probably won't.

NFLPA only exists at contract time. The rest of the time they are hiding in the shadows. D Smith should be ashamed of himself.

Well, they haven't done done a damn thing about it in 7 days...the same amount of time it took to suspend Harrison, hear his appeal, and hang him at dawn.

Browns Trainer "like we have any chance of beating these guys, geesh I need to get home and update my Farmville..."

James Harrison "I'm gonna hit this fool for rolling out to my side"

BLAMMMMMMM!!!!!! CRUSH EXPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every human watching or attending the game "Woah, that was brutal!"

Browns Trainer "Huh? What? Did I miss something? Oh man, better get out there and see if our tiny little QB is ok"

James Harrions "Really? I barely hit the guy! Come on!"

McCoy to Trainer "Tuesday...I have to go to Ruby Tuesday's and get some wings...and a Diet Coke"

Trainer to McCoy "Dude, are you ok? What happened"

McCoy to Trainer "Yesterday was such a pretty song by the Roaches...Beatles, so pretty"

Trainer to Coaching Staff "Yep, he's fine, put him back out there, barely got hit"

Harrions "I swear to God I'm gonna go off if they suspend me for this one. For real"

It's a load of crap. I'm sure that we'll never hear another word about it. All in the name of player safety.

chidi can you give us some sequence pictures on the hit Antonio Brown took on the first play of the 4th quarter? I believe it was 28 of the Browns that hit him helmet to helmet.

I'm not sure what play you're talking about. First play of the 4th quarter was a Miller reception called back on a Kemo hands to face.

By the way, have the breakdown of the four goalline plays in the other thread.

The Browns game, I don't know if it was late in the 3rd quarter or early in the 4th, antonio Brown caught a pass from Ben and get hit helmet to helmet on the play. They never showed the replay, but I'm sure #28 of the Browns hit him this way.

Sorry, it was early in the second quarter, the play where Ben sidestepped the blitz and delivered the ball to Brown. 32.24 I think it was on your NFL rewind.

In all fairness, I don't think McCoy saw the hit after either.

I called that at the time of the game as well. There have been a few hits on Brown in the last couple weeks that he's been totally defenseless and no flag it fine was issued. Jus shows how the inconsistencies continue in the NFL...
