View Full Version : Steelers interested in Peyton Hillis as a FA?

Living in Cleveland, OH I end up listening to the Cleveland view on sports. It's not that bad because I like the Indians and Cavs...and it's fun to listen to Browns fans cry all season long.

Listening to The Really Big Show this morning, they asked who is most likely to be a Brown next season, Hillis or Cribbs. And the show's host, Tony Rizzo (former sports anchor at Fox 8 Cleveland), said rumor has it that the Steelers would be interested in him if Hillis hit free agency.

I know Steelers fans are unhappy with Rashard Mendenhall's performance this year, as am I.

So the question is, would anyone here be interested in Peyton Hillis? This season has been a down season, especially after what he did last year for the Browns.

I truly believe in the Madden Curse. I also never thought he was going to have a good season this year because of the state of the Cleveland Browns. I didn't think he was going to be a good fit for the Cleveland offense because he needs at a minimum 20 carries a game to be effective, and there was no way Hillis was getting that on a consistent basis in this version of the West Coast Offense.

While I think he can be a very good back for a team that wants to be balanced and give him the 20+ carries a game, I don't like the attitude he has given off this season due to his contract situation. I understand it's a business and the money is the business side. But if you're going to show up, don't be a bitch about it, otherwise just hold out IMHO.

No way. I love our current RB tandem of Mendy and Redman.

I'm on the fence. I wouldn't be ecstatic if we got him, cause our RB situation is decent and I'd rather the FO use the salary cap room towards resigning guys like Wallace. However, if we got him for a bargain, I'd be ok with it.

Hillis is already beginning to break down physically. On top of that he has a piss-poor attitude. I'd also put money on it that he never again comes close to approaching the season he had in 2010, and that he'll be out of the league completely inside of 3 years. He's been showing all the telltale signs of being a one season flash in the pan.

The Steelers are going to have to let some guys go to get under the salary cap and they are already 3 deep at RB..not including MeMo who will probably be gone next year.

No thanks. Have you seen him? He's soft and being a bitch about playing this season. "injuries...". Okay...

Mendenhall >>>> Hillis

Redman is a better big back than Hillis despite the fact that Redman is prob like 230 and Hillis is prob like 260. Redman is quicker and keeps his feet moving better on contact than Hillis.

I love our RB corp and I don't want to change it.

I imagine this "report" is just pure speculation at this point. What front office is focused on free agency at this point in the season?

I think it came up because the Steelers play the Browns this week.

And don't kill the messenger! I am just posting about what I heard! I don't want the guy, though it would be hilarious to see Browns fans burning their Hillis jerseys...and the look on the faces of some Browns fans that I know would be priceless.

Use that money on a legitimate free agent guard. We have a 1st round pick that when motivated (that seems to be what's lacking in him at times) runs like crazy, but is still stopped too many times up the middle for lack of a true guard

Peyton Hillis and Tiki Barber, our backfield for 2012. :chuckle:

Head to the Dream Team. They could waste a few more dollars. Move on. Next!

We still have Batch waiting in the wings. But Hillis is to big a name for the Steelers to sign. In other words, much more likely not to happen than to happen.

We need to invest more in the line than the backfield.

LOL, you want that whiny unmotivated bitch to play for us? You think Desean Jackson and Chris Johnson play bad during a big contract year/extension? Hillis is taking the cake

We got John Clay on the Practice Squad if you looking for a bruiser.

I don't see how he's an upgrade over our current roster. No reason to throw away money on a guy who has a bad attitude and misses half the season either.

Just like for every other well-known player that people somehow speculate whether or not the Steelers will be interested. NO WAY!

sorry to side track this thread but, out of the young men that will enter this upcoming draft who amongst them would be a good addition to the steelers o-line?

Once again, I NEVER SAID I WANTED HILLIS ON THIS FOOTBALL TEAM!

I heard it as a rumor on a morning radio sports talk show here in Cleveland, just bringing it up for discussion. I voted in my poll, and as you can see nobody has voted "Hell Yes." I voted "Hell No" for anyone's info.

We are a little deep at the RB position, but I don't see how this could hurt.

Empire you beat me to it, but I think it is worth re-mentioning we get BARON BATCH back next year!!! I can't wait to see the impact he makes to our lackluster running game.

I live in the Cleveland area, too, and all this is is an attempt for him to be a Mark Madden and get people fired up. I don't believe there was a rumor at all until he started it.

Hillis isn't Steelers material at all...pass.

Oh cool, I can't wait until next season when Brett Favre is handing the ball off to Hillis and Tiki Barber, and passing the ball to T.O.

Baron Batch is injury prone Butch. He would be a welcome addition if fully healthy but I would not bank on it.

And he hasn't played a down of football yet. Don't get me wrong, I think Baron is something special, but there are a lot of hurdles still to go. His attitude and his heart are A #1, but he may not have it physically.
