The Steelers did exactly what they needed to do to conquer the explosive New England Patriots.

They possessed the ball nearly twice as long as the Patriots — 39 minutes, 22 seconds. Time of possession was the catalyst of the Steelers' 25-17 victory Sunday at Heinz Field.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the rest of the offense executed a game plan that was designed, in part, to limit opportunities for New England quarterback Tom Brady, who last season carved up the Steelers' secondary in a 39-26 victory.

Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians could never have imagined that the Patriots would have only one first-quarter possession. Or that his offense would post a 78-50 advantage in plays from scrimmage..............
