Mike Pereira, the former NFL VP of Officiating and current FOXSports.com analyst, didn't take kindly to Michael Vick (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/235253)'s comments earlier this week suggesting that officials were quick to protect some quarterbacks more than others.

Of course, Vick, the Eagles (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/PHI) QB, made these observations shortly after getting roughed up by the Giants (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/NYG). A day later, he admitted that (http://eye-on-football.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22475988/32326957) "I was kind of out of character and being too candid in that aspect. Ultimately, I have respect for the referees and their decision to make calls. You won't hear me complaining about it no more."

During a radio appearance Monday, Pereira called Vick's initial remarks "ridiculous (http://eye-on-football.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22475988/32326957)," adding that "[I]t took me back to my job in New York when I worked for the league, and it was a constant complaint by the Eagles, whether it was McNabb at quarterback or whether it was Vick. They clearly complained more than any other team.”...........

Manning and Brady also have better offensive lines and throw the ball away when nothing is there.

But I have seen some calls for them that were absolute bullshit.

I don't think MP quite understands that you can't find the answer with the statistics he's dolling out. He needs to go back and look at all the controversial calls and non-calls involving QBs and then see who is taking the hits that should be called, and who is getting the flags on grazes that are borderline at best. That's all that matters.

I think it's a double edged sword the way Ben and Vick play.... We gripe when the whistle gets blown too soon because we know what Ben and Vick are capable of when they scrambles and shed would be tacklers, but then that leaves them open to those late hits. Some are very blatant, and what I wish is that the refs would be more consistent with their calls.

Late hits are late hits, regardless of what QB is playing. As for Ben, i'd be more inclined to mention him getting his beak busted and a no call than anything.

Periera needs to look at the film and go from there. There are EASILY calls against Brady and Manning that are ticky-tac calls but he is not about to throw other officials under the bus. Being an official has to be difficult, you have some that think "making the call" will save their job and others that think "not making the call" will save their jobs. I think the ref's calls are related to how "comfortable" they are IN their job than what they think is real or not real.

well I know we have seen Ben get hit and 3-5 seconds after the ball leaves his hand he and other qb's have gotten hit. I know it is certain refs who make these calls. We all know that Brady (Precious) 99% get's those calls other QB'S not so much.

Vick and the Eagles need to SU. Vick had 5 personal fouls called in his favor last year. More than any other QB in the NFC East.

Karma's a bitch ain't it Vick? Don't try to injure Troy and maybe you have a better season yourself. A-hole.
